Hi All,

This is the system ive finally decided to go for;

Just a few questions, Is the case big enough to support dual SLi in the future? Also, Is the motherboard O.k for overclocking on? Debating wether to go for the Gigabyte UD5 but have never bought a board other than Asus?

Thanks. :D

That's the same CPU, motherboard and case combination that I bought recently. :)

The board is fine for overclocking and the case should be OK for SLI with two cards as long as they are not ridiculously long.

Incidentally the memory you've chosen there is horrendously expensive. Are you sure you couldn't get by with some PC3-12800C7 at about half the price?

PC3-12800 is 1600Mhz yes? I really wanted to go for 2000 to help with future proofing. Ive got £1000 to blow so what the heck ?

Or would lower speed ram be better for overclocking?

MCH, No, not yet.. Cant afford one with that spec.. Going to use my PCI-E 7900GT until I can afford a better card. And also maybe an SSD.

if it was me i'd probably be getting cheaper ram/mobo and then get a graphics card but thats only because i dont have the patients to be running a system like that on a lesser card :P . Will be a sick system once u get a 58xx in there.

I dont know a lot about that mobo and i dont have any first hand experience with 1366 mobos but i know that gigabyte-ud5 is a great board , it will take the i7 to 4.0ghrz without a problem.

Hmmmm the 902 is a good case and will fit most cards SLI just depends what u wana put in there as it might not fit something like two 5870's but im not 100% on this , you might just end up needing to take out a HD bay or something.

If you were to go for the memory I suggested you'd save enough money to buy a 4890 or 5770 graphics card, which is considerably better than what you have now, and still have a little beer money left over. I really doubt you're going to see that much practical difference between the two memory types, and almost certainly not enough to justify the huge additional cost of the one you specified.

The ram is very OTT. I'd get some good, but cheaper memory like some pc 12800- it will still overclock very well. Maybe sell your current gpu for a lil bit and go for a better gpu from what you've saved on the memory. If the builds for gaming i'd definitely do that, if not then look at the ssd drives.

I'd agree with the RAM downsize, I'm running the 1866 version and I'm still getting no where near its limits. It'll save you a few quid which you can stick in the pot until after xmas. I agree on keeping the graphics you have for now if you can. the Nvidias are on there way and the ATIs are only going to get cheaper. I'm holding off myself until it all sorts itself out for that brief moment of stability before something else comes along. rest of my spec as per sig, and i'm @ a very happy and stable 4.2

What memory would you recommend then instead of the Dominator GT 2000Mhz ?

I ideally want some with fans on.. Cos memory does get very very hot. I originally was looking at the dominator gt 1600Mhz.. ?

I just want some low CAS 7 ram.. with fan. :D

I got the dominator 1600 mhz... they are great you can't go wrong with them...

also why would you need a fan? The dominator already got the heat spreader on each module.

Most memory modules have heat spreaders.. Just I want to keep heat to a minimum. I might just stick with the 2000Mhz to be honest. At least ill know it'll be down to me and not my system if im getting spanked in FPS's. And I can actually get the dominator GT quite a bit cheaper than OcUK as I am a pc engineer by trade and get a lot of components at trade prices.. And I can also claim the VAT back.. :D

Definitely drop that ram. Yes its very good but so are lots of other cheaper sets.
cooling ram isnt a problem in that case as it has excellent air flow so go for some of this

I use it in my system and it easily stays with my cpu up to 4gig and above.
With the £200 you save you can then go ahead and pick youself a nice shiny new GPU

What about the OCZ Reaper instead? Cas 7 instead of 8 ? £50 more mind.. But £150 less than the dominator GT

Also, does anyone know what the supposed new Nvidia cards are called? Or any idea when there coming out?

They're likely to be called something like G** 3** where the first lot of stars are letters such as TX or TS or whatever, and the second are numbers such as 60 and 80. That's just guesswork though as you never know what the marketing people will come up with. As for release dates it's all speculation again but the rumour mill suggests that we're probably talking about February or March at the earliest, and even then maybe only in the kinds of numbers we're currently seeing for the 58xx cards from AMD/ATI at the moment.
