Further to this thread, I sold the Skyline today for asking price. I'll be absolutely gutted to see it go when the new owner picks it up, but that's life.
To replace it I was looking for something cheap, reliable and fun. I didn't really have a particular car in mind, just something that fills those criteria. Having said that I did fancy a 205 Mi16, but the only ones I could find were up the other end of the country. So I kept browsing PH and came across this:
It's a 1986 8v GTI with the following:
PAS fitted from a later GTI
90 spec interior with no saging or rips in the normal places
15" Ronal Turbo wheels with toyo t1s tyres
Lowered allround on Bilsteins
Jetex exhuast
K&N panel filter
Uprated TSR gear linkages
Big bumper conversion
Single headlamp grill with deleted badge and cross headlamps
It wasn't too far from me, was cheap and I liked the looks of it so this afternoon I went and took a look.
First impressions are the car is in absolutely fantastic shape for it's age, it has had a proper bare-metal strip-down respray and has been waxoyled, and apart from a small dent on the bonnet it's in supurb condition, especially considering it's a ~22-year-old car. It has every MOT from new, and has an almost 100% service history, and loads of reciepts.
I took it for a drive and what an absolute hoot
Yes, it's dog-slow compared to what I'm used to but it has so much character and sounds great. It feels taut and responsive and is very kart like. There are no creature comforts, it's noisy and creaky, the dash is pure 80's german slab, but I really liked the car, it's huge fun.
So I put a deposit down and will be picking it up next weekend after the new owner of the Skyline has picked it up.
Immediate plans are stripped interior and a cage, then depending how long I keep it perhaps and engine swap for something more fruity.
I'm looking forward to chucking it round combe
