I have just received my Z5500's today tested them with both by DVD player(coax) and Pc (optical) also with PC but they keep cutting out.

I get strange hissing sounds and the sub keeps beating like some strange interference.

Are my speakers broken?

When i turn the power off then back on they work again for random amount of minutes.

I am contemplating sending them back but i don't know if there is something i havn't done?

I have double checked all connections.

Oh dear, I have to say there seems to be a very specific and very serious issue with many logitech speaker sets.

I myself have had 2 sets of Z-5400's, first set was DOA, front left channel only emmited hiss, the second set has been doing the random "thumping" from the sub like yours and recently they have developed a "erratic" hiss in the background which is quite annoying.

They are being picked up tommorrow... heres hoping my third set is ok!

Have a set of Z5400's doing the exact same thing. Tapping the top of the control box gets rid of the thumping and hiss for a while then it comes back with a bang. They are about a year old now into a 2 year warranty. Gonna send them back when I have a tv that doesnt need them to play the 360.

Shame because otherwise they would be perfect.

To the OP if you look on logitechs site for your speakers it's a known problem and instant replacement on the z5500's. They were supposed to have fixed the problem, yours maybe an old set?

Found exactly the same with the control pod.

Mine are all packed up and ready to go back to the e-tailer :( (Contacted Logitech and they wanted VERY specific reasons as to why the e-tailer wouldnt offer a refund if I had wanted to do it through them) the annoying thing is, nowhere seems to have stock anymore, so i presume tey arnt sold anymore.

This wouldnt be a problem if I could find an equivalent set of speakers, but for £140 there is absolutely nothing out there that offers DOlby and DTs decoding as well as THX certification :(

The Z-5500's are nearly £40 more and the Creative GigaWorks 500 (or something similar) sound good but are £10 more and dont do any form of decoding...

Im really struggling to think what im gnna do if they turn around and say "yup sure you have a replacement but we cant source the same set, we can offer a refind" cos I dont have any extra cash atm and i definately want external decoding :\

My Z-5500's are ready to go back too. They were DOA, or at least the internal fuse was blown. I replaced it. That blew. I moved sockets, changed mains leads, used a professional regulated mains output - fuse blew again.

So they're going back. I've had enough!

How are you guys sending your's back?

Courier?

I was fed up after 3 hours with mine. In the end I had now power at all!

Mine is all packed and ready to be sent back. Going to get a refund and get a AV receiver plus speakers.

The e-tailer I used organises courier pick up via their web based RMA system. Due to be picked up today.

If only they still made the z-680s cos I got my z680s from amazon brand new a year ago, and havent had a single problem with them. Appanty the z-680 and the z-5500 are roughly the same in quality and power wise

"If your items are faulty on arrival, you have 28 calendar days in which to inform us of the fault (please note that for our business customers, this is 14 calendar days). Items should be returned in their original packaging complete with all accessories and documentation. Once we have verified the fault, we'll issue a replacement or full refund to you via your original payment method and reimburse your reasonable return carriage costs. We test returned items, and if a returned item is found not to be faulty by our technicians we will return the item to you, in this instance you will be liable for the return carriage. "

That what my e-tailer says.

Looks like I have to pay for P&P and then get reimbursed.

About two months ago I purchased a set of Z5500's and they worked fine for about three days. After that time they just would not power back on, I sent them back to OC and recieved a replacment, this new set worked for about a week and then I had the same problem have sent this set back and am currently waiting for the new set to be deliverd. I don't know what the problem was but i'm thinking they had a faulty batch as I doubt it was the fuses as I tested them and they worked fine. I also use surge protected sockets so I am pretty stuck as to why these fab speakers keep on breaking down

That's what I feared would happen with mine. I'm getting a refund for mine - I've lost a fair old bit of confidence in them.

The fuses blow because the power supply is underated for it's supposed power output. You might cook it if you bypass said fuse (NEVER wise btw ;) ) and turn it up.
