Hi, I have just got a 120gb ocz vertez hard drive i have put it in plugged in psu cable and sata cable and when the post screen comes on it says configuring sata port 1 or which ever no i got it in as i tried a few.

Am wondering if there is something i missed, i even tried changing ACHI to ide to see if that helps.

I also thought is it the ssd drive it self as i now plugged my normal drive back in to boot to windows and that runs fine.

My system is a intel i7 920 oc to 3.5 on a asus p6t deluxe with 6gb gskill ram

I even tried taking the overclock off to see if that works still no luck

Any help will be appreciated Thanks

You have the same motherboard as me which has six SATA ports so have you tried connecting the SSD to SATA port 2 and booting into Windows from your HDD? Go into Computer Management and see if Windows can see your SSD (your HDD will be Disk0 and the SSD should be Disk1).

If Windows cannot see the SSD then you likely have a defective drive. Normally I'd suggest trying different cables and SATA ports but since your HDD is working fine then it's unlikely to be a fault with either of those.

What BIOS are you using by the way? The latest one for our motherboard is v1904. I doubt updating to it will make any difference but it can't hurt to try it (just be very, very careful doing so if you've never updated a BIOS before!).

By the way, it doesn't matter whether you use AHCI or IDE, the BIOS will still automatic detect any drives connected to the SATA ports.

Bios will be one that came with it last feb so not sure, and when i have the sata plugged in along side my main drive with windows booting up it just says auto configuring sata drive which its plugged into.

It's unlikely to be a BIOS issue anyway so I'd only update that as a last resort.

I'm unsure what this auto-configuration message is you're referring to. Do you mean the text that appears during POST when the BIOS goes through the system checks and lists the drives attached. Or do you mean the two Marvell ones for RAID and SAS that appear afterwards but before Windows actually starts loading?

Just to clarify... when you boot into Windows with the SSD attached as a second drive, can you see its icon in Computer or listed in the Computer Management tool? If the answer to both is no then you have a duff SSD I'm afraid.

Have you gone into the BIOS (hold down the Delete key during POST) and selected the Drive section to see if both your Windows HDD and the SDD appear there? The BIOS will automatically detect any SATA drives attached to the motherboard so you should see them (from memory) on the first page that opens up if you're using AHCI. If you're using AHCI then they appear in the AHCI section instead.

When i have the ssd drive plugged in it dont get past the post without pressing delete to get into bios

I have sas option turned off

Well that shouldn't happen... I'm no expert but I'd say your SSD is very likely faulty I'm afraid. You could try contacting OCZ support but your best course of action would be to contact the place you bought the drive from and ask for a replacement.

I returned my drive to the other company they could not find fault, yet i purchased another one from here that runs fine.

Asked the other company for refund then as i still think it just didnt like my system or windows 7 and they charged me 15% admin charge.

Well Gutted.
