my phenom940 benchies

Exactly the same one as you and Vista 64.
u get to 3.8ghz on what volits, also what bios version u using? i can only get to 3.4ghz on stock volits and 3.5ghz with 1.40v all via amd overdrive. because in the bios the mutliplier doesn't work yet, theres a beta bios that fixs that but im not gonna use.

what benchmarks u want? ill run them. at stock and at 3.4ghz

I'd particularly like to see some video encoding if you can. A couple of games I suppose.

Whatever you think is relevant and cpu intensive. Thanks.

Do you intend to push for 3.8 to 4ghz?

Much as I've always liked DFi this board is doing my head in, might just be a slightly duff board and a replacement would be better, not sure tbh.

Stick with it. I have moments like that with my DFI, but once you find the sweet spot it's worth it. Best boards hands down for serious overclocking. ;)

i will push for 3.8 to 4ghz when dfi get they finger out to release the non beta bios.

ill do some benchmarks now.

I've got the same board as you Gareth, multi works with their latest official bios, I'm not 100% sure which setting let it actually work but I assume it was when I disabled cool and quiet, which frankly didn't change my temps much, from abotu 33c idle to like 35c idle despite a massive clocks/voltage drop with C&Q :p

THe Ht multi won't work though no matter what I've tried and the consensus on XS is it doesn't work. NB multiplier, i think that was the same issue, cool and quiet enabled and it wouldn't work. Still messing, ish, been playing Lotro for a while to check stability, seems fine here at 3.65Ghz and 2.35Ghz northy, it feels far smoother than my Q6600 which due to bad contact/something I only ran at about 3.35Ghz for stability.

Its a damn speedy system, though to be fair I'm using better hard drives now aswell, though out of loading that shouldn't matter to much tbh.

I just hit this complete wall at 3.8Ghz or so at the moment though. Maybe it is temps and they aren't being read accurately, I'm not at all sure. Might finally clean out my watercooling system and give that CPU 2 3x120mm rad's of cooling power and several million(pico) volts more than I am now.

now 3.4ghz isn't stable. i've i got a crap chip or is because its clocked by AOD? i have the latest official bios but the multiplier doesn't work in the bios , also cool and quiet is disabled.

also my bios says stock vcore is 1.33v and in AOD its says 1.35v. which is right?

now its stable at 3.4ghz with 1.36v via AOD. but everest and cpu-z says the vcore is 1.34,... lol i'm getting 4 different readings.

I'm awaiting the release of the 945 in April... I can't afford the 940 right now, by the time I have saved up the needed cash it will be close to release date :/

i think i'm gonna sent my 940 back and get a replacemeant because i'm geting random freezes and blue screens at stock, i've had this problem before with a 9850 and i sent it back and got a replacemeant which worked perfectly. so i think i have just got a bad chip again.

@ drunkenmaster and NightmareXX or everybody with a DFI Lan Party DK 790FXB-M2RSH & Phenom II 940.

can u tell me what your stock volts is in your bios and in cpu-z + amd overdrive..

also when u up your cpu voltage in the bios do u use the "cpu vid special add option"? because when i up that then go in to windows and start amd overdrive and when i look at the voltages, only the cpu vddc as gone up. i thought it would be the cpu vid that would go up but that still says 1.35v...

also is 1.45v-1.5v and 45c underload safe? amd site says the 940 can run at 0.875-1.5V which im guessing is vcore? so is cpu vddc means vcore? i've always thought cpu vid is vcore.

CPU VID is kind of like the default vcore for that chip. A lower VID is often an indication of a chip that will clock with less voltage increase. VID won't change when you change the vcore.

so cpu vddc the vcore?

at stock...

as u can see in above picture both vddc and vid can be upped. in the bios theres only 1 option which is "cpu vid special add " which ups the vddc.

Well that's thrown a spanner in the works for me!! VID isn't adjustable on an Intel chip, AFAIK it's programmed into the chip so that the BIOS knows what vcore to set at different power states.

Edit; Just read this on Tom's
we set the processor’s voltage to 1.55 V, which was the maximum AMD recommended for air cooling.
They do run it up to 1.625v though and state that the temps are never a problem. They don't do a great job of clocking it but it's good information nevertheless.
