My Plusnet fibre has got worse with time :(

Ping is MUCH better, after firmware update. I have not had a ping this low for months.

still not hitting the speed though, The firmware is the one from that mega folder.

is there any screenshots i could post that people could read as check all is set how it should be ?

The speed could be because you have been turning the modem off and on so its enabled a slower profile or something. I would leave it a couple of days and see if it increases on its own rather than trying anything just at this moment.

I would suggest some tweaks while you have the gui of the modem open though

In advanced go to QOS and untick it and apply
In basic under WAN select the connection pmt1.301 and press delete at the top right (this is bt's modem update / remote access connection which you dont want or need)

What network are you running e.g. 192.168.1.* on your LAN? if so go to basic and LAN and change the IP of the modem to something that will work on your network without conflicing with the router. I have mine set as 192.168.1.253. This way you can connect lan 2 to a basic LAN port on your router and access the stats on any pc by going to 192.168.1.253 :)

cheers chap, I will go do this all now. My PC is upstairs and lappy downstairs so accessing the modem up here is Much easier.

Mine had the GUI, but I think they update and remove it. I can only get in via telnet now.

Should I force the previous version on again?

Does this look right ?

You could do unless your not really that bothered about the webgui. Just make sure you use the 08 version as that is the newest. The 10 version is actually older.

Looks fine, mine doesnt show uptime properly either. You could grab

dslstats - http://www.s446074245.websitehome.co.uk/
or
Modemstats - http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/hg612stats.htm

These report all the stuff correctly :) just make sure when you select the modem you change the LAN ip to the one you changed it too as it will default to 192.168.1.1 in the program :)

Interestingly now when i run a speed test it for less than a second i would say starts at 75meg then quickly drops to 66, It never done this before and my ping is 9-11 now too. Definite improvement.

I had similar issue with Plusnet fibre started off with 70mb and it gradually sync down to about 65mb..i wanted to make a fuss but just left it as its more than enough for me. As i have a background in broadband support networking i know the amount of issue that can affect speed. My contract is up soon so might jump ship at some point..and try a different provider. I have about 3 fibre modems ..just shows how much i have switched providers lol

I get the impression that most sync slow downs are due to crosstalk issues. When the new cab was installed around 18 months back, in my area I was one of the first few to get connected and over that time period with more new connections being added I lost close to 30mb of the download sync. I now have had switch over to infinity 1 just no point in paying extra any more.

Shock and horror as more people are signing up for fibre in the area bringing down the average speed levels!

Well when i placed my order i was told the cab was almost at capacity. So i cant see that being the answer,

Ultimately my ping after the modem change is back to its old self at 8ms all the time and i am getting a downlod of 68 this morning and i have not had that in months so the answer is the eci modem was the peoblem. Plusnet actually confirmed there is a problem with that modem and they are working on a patch.

That's good and I hope what Plusnet say is true. I've been thinking of buying a new modem, probably built in to router, but I'd think that Openreach or whoever would be near to fixing this ECI-related issue.

TP-Link is doing a good job of keeping their routers up to date in supporting current Internet technologies via firmware releases. The TP-Link W9980, which uses the same Lantiq chipset as Openreach's ECI modem, had firmware released to rectify the current issues many of us are seeing. In that case surely the same will be done for Openreach's modems pretty soon... I hope.

I'm glad I didn't get around to buying any of the supposed Huawei modems from the sellers mentioned earlier.

Same here cab as just hit 100% openreach are looking at putting in a new one about 500m up the road.

The question is why did they not just put in a bigger cab in the first place, it has only took 18 months to fill it not very good planning on BT`s part. Now they have double the cost.
