My poor old M3!!!!

Sorry my car doesnt allow me to smell the road, or see the road directly infront.
remember the OP's friend is not only an extremely experienced and qualified driver in both race and safety situations, but that he was on a roundabout which differs significantly from a bend/straight piece of tarmac.
even if he was behaving (speed wise) he'd still have slowed down, checked the approaches and chosen a line to take.
IMHO a driver of this calibre SHOULD have seen it.
as i said if the driver was a regular motorist i'd retract all of the above, but this guy's experience and qualifications set his own personal bar that much higher than the norm.

I would hardly say I am unobservant either, infact I think that's damn rude.
hello pot, this is kettle....sorry to bother you but your ass is black ;)

Simon,

i suggest your diesel sniffer filter is probably blocked, must be all the wee smell in your Grandad machine :p Giff-R do a nice range of aftermarket items that also remove glaze from disks.

My 2p

Race drivers dont come across diesel and drive at such a condition where they cant make judgements of road condition in a race so it tends not to be habit to do this everyday. Although no grip= no grip regardless who you are, yes and that includes superman as deisel is liquid kryptonite  :p

race drivers aren't looking at the surface while driving?
incorrect.

plus the fact he is an advanced driving instructor AND a police driving instructor AND a biker.
ALL of whom very definitely have it in their vested interests to be continually assessing the road surface amongst all the other extra factors that set drivers like this apart.

Stop all the ******* and put it this way. They guy made a mistake. Everyone does. Tough cookies he wiped out an M3.

Sounds like he should have been batman.

I don't even know if this was in daylight to be honest....

Yeah deffo, just pointing out the race driver aspect that tends to be OMG there so great, how did he crash. Afterall if he was really good he woudlnt be a copper now :p

People are only human, atleast he'll get money back.

totally agree.
he made a mistake, we all do.
bending a car is always a shame but even more so when you've only owned it for such a short period of time as this guy.the fact it was an M3 doesn't make that any more or less pallatable IMHO.

that would have course drastically reduce his ability to spot anything like this.
and to be honest i don't recall this being mentioned in the thread thus far.
night/day?

if all it took was talent, i wouldn;t be doing what i do either ;)

makes you look at mansell again with a nod of respect, re-mortgaging his house IIRC to give his career a chance.
now that's what i call being sure of your own abilities....not to mention that i have no idea at all how the hell he persuaded his wife to go along with that.

A racing driver definetly wouldnt spot it because the car he is in would be so close to the ground the angle is all wrong.

The only people who can see diesel on the road are the truck drivers high up in their cabs, its like a trail of breadcrumbs to them.

The only time I see diesel or maybe its petrol, on the road is when its raining and Iam walking past on the pavement

Looks to have a very meshed front bumper too. And i dont think thats a standard colour.

boston green and a reiger bumper... due to the arches. i think the mesh ended up there because the bumper came like it lol eventually the mesh got changed for black stuff, it made the car stand out too much haha
