My Project For The Summer! Water Cooled Server Case Mod

Im a newbie to most of this modding but i want to build a custom water cooled "Super Rig" while i have nothing to do this summer! Im thinking of purchasing this donar case.

Do you think i will be able to turn it into my rough and ready artist imppression below? The bottom big circle on the front will show the water resovoir, second 1 up just blue light through perspex. The usb and power button will be in the other two, with all the circles being surround by aluminium trim. I also wanted an lcd mounted in the front and the drive above that and some sort of temp controller/readout.

My worry is whether it will be posssible to fill the gaps? I was gonna use filler to make it flat across the front, could i just put some sort of bevel in the hole the fill over it?

what metal skills would i require? just cutting the holes out? I f i could it would be a lot easier. Hmmmm

ok so if get a peice of aluminium, cut it to the size of the door, find some way of cutting the circles out then attach some sort of hinge. Sounds fun! how thick should he aluminium be for the door?

ok so 2mm, any ideas about how i could cut them circles out? im guessing a dremmel will not do it

oh well thats sounds achievable. What about the lcd are there any out there i could buy, or will i have to buy a small 1 and take the facia off? i just want to get on with it lol

I like the PSONE idea looks a bit tricky, but its a mint idea! u can get them for £28 aswell

dammit i cant wait for uni to finish so i can get stuck into this!

how much are dremels these days? i got bord and made a 3D drawing of my intended plan

good guess lol not bad considering its free

and very user friendly

I was thinking about buying a swiftech kit or the cooling, is the radiator best outside of the case or would it be possible to mount it inside? will it geet to hot in the case?

ive looked on the web but i cant find a hole saw big enough

i dont know if they make them with a 20ish cm diameter, so i might just have to use a dremel god knows how many blades i will go through! :S im gonna make the make the metal trims out of the panels off an old aluminium case

also butchered power buttoms and the usb plugs to

so my next steps are.

1) Remove any unwanted stuff from the case and remove the drive bays.
2) Take off the front and measure up for the metal for the door.
3) Take a dremel to the side panel for the windows and find some window material.

get payed tommorrow so il have to go and buy one, ive never used a jicksaw to cut a curve before or on metal so should be interesting

Case arrived today!

Hers a few photos, after i stripped it out bit.

Im having a few issues tho, can i mount a pump at the top of the case?, thee motherboard will take up most of the bottom, and the only space i can see is at the the top above the psu hole :S and do you think it will be ok to cut a hole out at the bottom out of that front pannel, it looks pretty strong, just so my windows wont be blocked?

i think two are 92mm and an 80mm. I payed £10 for it

Already started removing the paint and half cut 1 of the circle windows, proving rather difficult with a dremel.

lol u should! i need to get some of the stuff so i can measure out the holes on my new front panel. Yeah it doesnt look to bad, i need to cut a hole in the front where the two fans would go, as im putting windows there and it would spoil the view

ive got my dad on the case, he works as a maintenance engineer at a grain store, and they have lots and lots of sheet metal

so ive ordered up some 2mm steel, which if i ask nicely will be cut to size

okay i got bord when i should have been revising my huuman geography :eek:

so i got medevial on my case instead

cut out the hole in the case so my windows wont be blocked

nearly cut the motherboard tray off by mistake, shudnt have been watching tv at the same time. lol

im gonna try and get hold of a psone screen tonight, im trying to avoid the circle cut outs on the panel at the mo.

that bottom rectangular hole wasnt there yesterday.

Ive been reading up about that psone screen mod and i dnt like the look of it :S and will probably not work on my nvidia card, has any1 got any ideas for a a different screen to use?

ok im gonna have a bash at the side panels on monday do you think a jigsaw will be the best plan of action for cutting the circles out?

two circles one 20cm diameter and a 14cm diameter i started with a dremel but it was takening ages!
