Last night whilst playing GHWT my ps3 froze & i had to restart it. Now it won't read any type of disk at all:mad:

Tried full format etc,but no joy:( Looks like my BD/DVD drive has gone

Am i better off going through the store i bought it from for an RMA or using Sony ? How long is the turnaround when using Sony ?

Only have 3 weeks of warranty left too

Cheers,

Rob

Sony will be a lot quicker - and may even do a direct swap on the doorstep.

I had the same trouble and they were very fast - replacement PS3 was quieter too which was a bonus.

Thanks for the info folks:) Will just do the RMA through Sony tomorrow. Hopefully it will be pretty quick

Quick update

Just phoned sony & it's a week before they can even pick it up:( Then it may take up to 14 working days for a repair

Not as fast as i was hoping for,but it's getting fixed at least

Rob

I take it you've got a 60gig? Unfortunately as they don't produce them anymore they have to repair your unit, as opposed to a straight swap like they do for the 40/80s.

Thats a shame and I hope its not indicative of the way they've gone.

My PS2 broke two months out of warranty and the nice chap overlooked it and arranged for it to be picked up the very next day and swapped for a new one.

As if that wasn't good enough, being the numpty I am, I left GTA 3 in the drive, and so called them up and they sent me out a brand new copy.

Couldn't say fairer than that, shame it seems they are no longer this good.

I just have a 40GB mate,i'm a bit disapointed with how long its going to take

I have a 60 gig that had the same problem as you and is being picked up by sony support today. It did take them a few weeks as they were out of parts for that sku and had to order them in, I guess that might be the case for older models in general. However, they were very apologetic and are doing a straight swap which is pretty damn good considering it is out of warranty!

Really!? That is strange, i got a straight swap on my doorstep within 24 hours which was a duff so i got another one sent 2 days later. That's 2 replacements in less than a week and they're taking 2 weeks to give you one replacement? Yeah, as i say, strange.

Phoned them back to see if they can do it quicker, but they just said the earliest pickup will be next week & thats the only option:mad::mad: No swap on doorstep either. It has to go for repair

Well this is a first :(

Both of mine have been swapped on my doorstep within 2 days.

When i phoned back the second time, guy on the phone told they only do a swap on the doorstep if the HDD is faulty & because it's my BD/DVD has gone ,it has to go back for repair & will probably take 14 days.

I think i'm more annoyed, that they are not picking until next week

Told him i was a bit disappointed & was basically told that was the only way they can do it.

So looks like a 3 week wait for me:(

So much for the top notch sony support.....well for me at least !!

To be fair it's still better than many, for example my PSU blew up recently, i had to post it to them via recorded delivery which set me back £11; money they refused to refund.
