Hey people, I have got my first semi-pro MMA fight coming up soon and the nerves are starting to tingle just a little bit.

I know we have boxers and thai lads etc on here, has anyone competed and have any advice?

I've competed in Judo tournies, but this involves getting punched and kicked in the head hard lol.

Any advice welcome.

It will be video'd and I'll link everyone up win, lose or draw.

Hey. Good luck!

I'd love to do this but I haven't got the balls :D

Can't really offer any advice so can just wish you well. All my experience comes from watching UFC/TUF which won't be much use :p

Ermmm.. advice... try not to kick any doors off it's hinges and you should do well? ;)

I don't have any advice, but i was wondering, Is Judo your only martial arts training? I am speaking from complete ignorance here ... but i am guessing you have had to train in some other disciplines too?

It just made me think of that Thai boxing champ vs Judo champ video that did the rounds ages ago. Thai guy kicked ****

Also best of luck to ya!

Is semi-pro full contact on the floor? I watch some lower level MMA where you couldn't ground and pound, it was like standard kick boxing standup but as soon as it went to the floor you had to go for submission, even when someone got full mount they couldn't use any strikes to the face.

Oh and good luck, anyone stepping in the ring has to get some respect even if they do lose :)

The rules for this fight are standing kicks and punches, no knees or elbows. On the ground no strikes to the head, which sucks as GNP is something I love and it sets up submissions.

Id rather do this though and get a feel for it before stepping up to pro rules.

As for Judo it's awesome for MMA, throws, general throw defence and balance, submissions and control on the ground due to hold downs.

lol, I didnt mean that dude. I was just wondering how useful the judo would be tbh.

Depending on the opponent, very useful. If semi-pro means no ground and pound and the opponent has been boxing for so many years then clearly you want to go for a takedown :)

I've seen people get takedowns but then they have no idea what to do next. :p

Just make sure you are well equipped :D

Yeah I will be going for the takedown and sub, my standup has come on leaps and bounds from when I started, but I will always be at home on the ground.

Training has been going excellent though and I am in the best condition of my life, so cardio shouldn't be a problem. Unless nerves get to me and I dump adrenaline, but can't stop that haha

Ah that's a shame, I thought for a minute there I might get to watch my first OCUK fight :) Well good luck anyway mate, I only do Muay Thai and Boxing so cannot really comment on MMA but I know pretty much all of the MMA guys down my gym all use Muay Thai as their main standup art.

Good luck!

Are any family members going with you to record it? Be awesome to see it posted here, but more crucially would allow you watch it back a few times and possibly learn a few things from the performance (Unless it ends in about 10 secs from a knockout :D).

I don't know the name of the person im fighting let alone his style! All i know is he will be 63kg same as me.

One of the people from my gym fought at this promotions last event, they have people filming it and put a DVD out. I was on holiday an missed his fight but watched the DVD last night, they did a decent job of filming so I should have a decent video for you all.
