My manbag is a genuine WW2 gas mask bag from around 1942 so is over seventy years old.

As I got out of the car and picked it up yesterday, one side gave way.

The webbing bit on the side which holds the strap has simply worn through. Here's what the other side looks like.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of some of that mesh webbing stuff so I can fashion a repair?

If you have an independent dressmaker or haberdashery nearby they will be able to do it for a small price. They will also be able to check the rest of the bag and reinforce any weak areas from the inside to prevent any further damage.

Canvas belts can be had for pence on ebay. Im sure they could be chopped up to make repair material.

It belongs in a museum!

Pattern 37 Webbing might be of interest to you: very similar materials and of the same period.
