My son just pulled my 2 month old MBP off the kitchen side onto a tiled floor!

Just make sure you have the drive backed up and also I'd wipe the drive prior to sending it.. once they decide to replace it you will not have access to it and the laptop could end up anywhere with your data (home bank details etc) on it..

The DVD drive is screwed? Any other way to do that?

Copy off using network/usb memory stick/external HD. You may be lucky a work mate dropped a high spec Vaio laptop it still worked but the case was damage and the screen hinges were bent. The insurance company just arranged for a new laptop to be sent out and they didn't want the old one back which suprised me, he now uses it as a media PC attached to a TV.

Got to take it to a registared Apple repair centre round the corner from my place of work, £40 (added to claim) and they will quote a price to fix it..Chap said by the sounds of it (totally new case, DVD drive, hinge..) they may write it off...

requesting picture of your son standing on it with a quote "i'm a pc" :D

Lol I was sooo angry but he is such a cutey it didn't last for long... as I said my fault not his...

Guys since the MBP was dropped web pages seem not to load correctly?

See pic below...

Has been perfect since I had it, could this be a graphics card or screen fault do you think?

Doubt its the gfx card if you are able to screen shot it but I may be wrong, if so thats a new logic board you'll need, your right the price on the case is low, the screen on new MBPs is a single part so actually the repair on the screen will be about £300-500 and the super drive cost is about £150 because I included labour.

On the unibody mac's the screen, glass front and back cover of screen are one, the top case i.e. the keyboard area are seperate....

I am sure you know what the topcase is but I just wanted to clairfy

Actually I didn't but thanks for explaining it, well I just checked and its doing it on all web pages in firefox and safari...

I think its proper sick..... Going in for a repair quote tomorrow ...

Will post back the cost and breakdown if anyone is interested!

Just got this from the engineer looking at the MBP

"With casing, display, optical drive and costs its around £1155. Waiting for diagnostics plus I will do a visual internal inspection to see if we can get it written off for you."

Guys

Do you think they will write this off??

Total cost for repair is £1173.64

New model is £1,369

£195.36 difference!!

I think they will, because there doesn't seem to be any sense in repairing it when there is so much work to be done on it. I mean my MacBook (unibody) is being replaced right now just because of a Bluetooth problem and I demanded a new laptop from them. So I think you should puch for a brand new laptop anyway.

Mines an insurance claim though, is yours warranty?

You should have made sure it was proper broke before calling the insurance*. I.e. drop it again!

* Hypothetically speaking, of course.

The thought passed my mind but I didn't bother in the end..

At least it didnt fall on your son,,

He's like bam bam from the flint stone.. wouldn't have hurt him if it did ... (but jokes aside the laptop was the last thing on my mind..he comes first)

If he was a dutiful son he would have dived in the way to save the MacBook Pro. :D

Lol.... was too busy standing on it I think!

Insurance company are quick to take my money but slow to make a decision on whether to repair or replace my MBP :(

Saying they may not get to it until the end of this week beginning of next.... grrrrrr
