Hey Guys ive recently setup a brand new rig as my old one well lets just say it died..

so my question to you guys is the only HD ive bought for my pc is a 1TB Samsung 850 Evo, is there any needed for me to enable AHCI mode? or as ive read another place is this only for hot swapability and encryption or something else that got said cant remember? as I will be installing windows 7 pro for now as I have a legit copy of it still..

and also will I just be able to plug in my external optical drive to my USB after going into BIOS and telling it to boot from USB and install windows 7 straight to my SSD?

I was going to get 2 x 500gbs but it was cheaper buying the 1TB and i didn't feel the need to buy any other HD for storage of movies and stuff after that as I have a portable HD for that kind of stuff so yeah please answer my SSD questions guys, as im going home for dinner in an hour and want to set it off installing! :)

From what I gather, you may as well enable AHCI mode if you're doing a fresh install- not sure if it makes a difference to speed. And I tried hot swapping a HDD and my computer powered down and rebooted with the "Windows needs to run recovery" message lol. I probably missed something though.

I would enable achi, have a read here about it. my 850 evo in the magician software says to enable it for the SSD

article shows speed with achi enabled and disabled, enable it before you install windows otherwise if you do it after the system may not boot.

Yes, if you have a external cd drive and a install disk of windows 7 then just get the PC to boot from it. could just stick it on a USB stick and boot from that instead
