I.. don't quite know what to say right now.

Just got the email through from the dealer I ordered my new guitar from - a custom carved top Suhr - spec'd out to my dream specifications!

7500002.jpg

Here is the spec:

Guitar Model - Carved top
Body Wood - Mahogany Body Option - 3/16 Quilt maple Top,
Neck Wood - Mahogany w Indian Rosewood (dark as poss) NO FACE DOTS . - REVERSE HEADSTOCK
Neck Back Shapes - Even C Extra Slim, Radius - 16"
Nut -
Frets - Stainless Steel Jumbo
Bridge - Gotoh 1055 with Steel Block - RECESSED
Hardware Colour *- Chrome
Gears - Sperzel Locking
Pickguard - No pickguard, rear rout
Knobs - Chrome

Finish - Chilli pepper red
Paint Options - Match figured headstck, SATIN NECK
Other options - Scraped binding, abalone side dots on neck
String Gauge - .10 - .46

It's influenced by Guthrie Govan's Suhr standard - mahogay body, maple top, mahogay neck, indian rosewood fingerboard, reverse headstock, the body woods are what I prefer the most and I've always liked the feel of a mahogay neck. Only has a sexy carved top as I prefer the feel against my arm and also favour the angle it causes your forearm to lay at.

The reverse headstock looks killer - also as the scale length is slightly longer on the bass strings this will give me slightly more resistance for heavy riffs (I tend to whack the strings a little). The inlayless board also looks PIMP. I asked for a slight burst (the dark part around the edges of the body) and they've got it perfect, I was worried it'd be a bit too ott but it's literally better than I could ever have imagined.

Anyway, it's still got to make its way across the Atlantic (I'm so nervous that the plane it goes on will crash and burn :D ) but when it gets here I'll be taking tonnes of pics and recording some sound clips if anyone fancies a listen.

That looks fantastic!

You've been waiting a while from my understanding, bet you can't wait . . How long have you waited for it? Also what was the damage if you don't mind?

Hey DS, well dunno if you noticed but I had been keeping a little updatey thing in my sig for the past couple of months :p It took 109 days from me getting my 'final' spec PDF emailed through (basically means you can't change anything once you've ok'd that).

In the end with shipping it came to $3505 including the deposit, in GBP that's about £1700, definately reasonable considering how much many other high end guitars cost, with shipping it's gonna be close to £2k, even then it's still just shy of £1k cheaper than what a lot of UK dealers charge for a Suhr carved top, win win!

Hehe Skeetar, I understand you're not a fan of the red stripy stuff :p That's actually the quilt of the maple top, usually you see straighter more uniform lines commonly called a flame top, I prefer the quilt, in person it's going to look so deep - almost as though you could stick your arm in the guitar up to your elbow!

Very nice, i love the Red Tiger stripe design, how thick is the body looks pretty thin, also on side not what gauge strings do you use they are huagggee

Can't remember how thick it is exactly, it's thicker than your standard super strat body, here's a side on view of another carved top (the guitar on the far right): if you look near the neck pocket you can get an idea of the depth.

John Suhr has quoted some exact measurements on the forum before but I can't find them, actually on the site (suhrguitars.com) it says the maple top is 3/4" thick, so add that to the body and it's pretty chunky, it's gonna definately have some mass being mahogany anyway.

Strings are 10-42 :) I've been using them for a couple of years now, just prefer the snappier tone and resistance they offer over 9s. Oh yeah the colour is also know as 'chilli pepper red' =)

hope you have a good camera :p

lol i'll be borrowing my dads, I'm not in the know but it's a pretty good camera, here's a pic I took of a Jem I used to have: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v67/Andelusion/Jem7VWH/Jem7vWH002.jpg that turned out alright, but was a complete fluke I think :D

My god, that is beautiful:eek:. Its got me thinking about my dream guitar.
I could ramble on all day about what i'd like...

Hehe I've lost count how many times I've posted in various 'spec your dream guitar' threads on other forums, it feels great to have one on the way that's just how I want it :)

Very nice guitar, i'm sure you'll love it. I like the reverse headstock, the colour scheme not so much, but then that's the beauty of a custom, you get exactly what you want.

I've never played a Suhr, but their reputation speaks for itself, hope you enjoy it!
