My Surfshark subscription is about to expire. Is there such a thing as a reliable, fast free vpn?

Just to say -, had a few problems with Nord. They have got very popular and so many of their servers are high traffic - which leads to them being blocked as a VPN by an increasing number of streaming companies etc

I noticed that too.

You could watch BBC iPlayer and Sky before, then when they started advertising. Even being recommended by the BBC themselves their servers stopped working for them. Not too sure if its still the same now. I still have my Nord sub but I rarely use it.

You can pretty much get a free paid for sub of NordVPN with their many Cashback offers.

How did you manage that?

Thank you. I had a quick google. Best I can get Nordvpn is £71 for two years. Have you any more info please?

I purchased 2 years for $80, so your £71 sounds about right. I got 50% cash back via Quidco. Worked out at £37.53 cash back.

I went with surfshark. Took the 2 year £1.79 option so £42.96 and got £33.98 cashback through top cashback which took 2 months/

Happy enough to pay a tenner for 2 years

Still giving 75% cashback at the moment.

Thanks folks.
I hadn't used Topcashback or Quidco before now.

I originally had a Surfshark account. I cancelled my autorenewal with Surfshark and I've just signed up to Topcashback and purchased Surfshark again via links in Topcashback with 75% cashback.

Here's hoping it all works out....

Off topic, but is this using F1 TV Pro?

Signed up this morning after getting SurfShark through TCB, but am reading a lot of stories online of people not being able to watch the races or having their subscription cancelled?
Yup! I’ve been using it for 2 years.

Now, I subscribe to F1 TV pro through the apple subscription (£59 a year) so not too bothered if it’s cancelled as it’s cheaper than Sky.

So instead of ones ISP being potentially able to see the sites one goes to, it's the VPN company who can see it? :D

There's no potential, ISP's have always been able to collect this data although now due to the IPA, this has been somewhat standardised with ICR's (Internet Connection Records) and ISP's have to retain this data which typically requires a warrant for a subset of this data. But where it now gets sketchy is the fact they've been trialling warrantless gathering of data (https://www.wired.co.uk/article/internet-connection-records-ip-act / https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.p...-isps-trial-new-internet-snooping-system.html).

But sure, you put a lot of trust into a no-logging VPN provider but again there's still plenty of other reasons for someone to use one.

I run my own VPN here but the only reason is so that when I'm out and about, I can connect to it from my phone or my laptop and go through my Pihole for ad blocking.

Cool although you don't really need a VPN for that as you could do ad-blocking locally, or via a DNS service, or even spin up a remote PiHole docker (Oracle offers free Arm VPS's).

Perfect, was considering getting Sky as i'm using a family members Sky Go at the moment, but pretty sure that's only 720p @ 24fps, which looks a bit trash on a 65" 4K via a laptop & HDMI.

Roll on Imola to see how it works! :D
