My turn for a linux thread

I'll try gaming at low in a bit. The 600 or so megs of memory shouldn't make a difference with 2gb of ram unless I play bf2 on high or something.

Up from 8 to 19 mins when playing cs:s :/
Actually the :/ was a bit strong. That's still 400 ppd compared to 1000 when gaming. A hell of a lot better than the zero I would get with the normal client on low.

I swear fps were slightly less though on very infrequent, open areas (like some bits on de_port when there's a large draw distance).

Hang on, how the hell does that work? All im telling windows is that vmware is low priority and only gets CPU cycles other high priority arn't using. If it can't do that its pretty **** tbh.
Not sure what you mean now? From my example above, I've found it less than halves. As stan said, it's good at keeping resources. Low priority doesn't mean none, they still share to an extent I assume.

I'm not turning it off Sirius, 400ppd when gaming? :D

I know what you mean conc. With the normal client it doesn't get a look in when gaming. I mean nothing, hardly any cpu time at all.

Vmware is greedy apparently and uses cpu time regardless of priority. The priority just changes how greedy it is :D

Woot, 4 figure average! It doesn't fit on the sig! :D

We're lucky indeed to have the stats sig machine :)

your catching me up :( your name is in red... as with one other..

need to get this client working properly and then get my average back up where it belongs.. these horrible WU's have brought it right down :(
Awww wow! Somebody ahead who actually posts! I'm climbing up the table at last :D

You've got 236 days :D

How do I get it shared on the workgroup then? Using NAT in vmware. Got samba installed and the folder set as shared. I changed the name of the thing as it was "conflicting" when it was localhost (Administration -> Networking. General tab - Host name to "smp". Hosts tab - changed 127.0.0.1's alias to "smp").

It appears fine in my network places. Can't read the directory though. Double clicking the machine in network places (to browse it) results in a login box. Username/pass don't work in it.

you need to set up a username and password for Samba (can use the same as your Ubuntu login - just need to put them in the right place)

full instructions are here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/ubuntu/install-samba-server-on-ubuntu/
Excellent good job Rich. Reading it with fahmon now. Much more convenient way of checking the log if nothing else :)

Next question, how can I add the projects? Can't be hard to add the smp ones manually can it? Thanks again :)

Edit: the unofficial fahmon does it, hooray! :D

You used to need to use sudo installService but with recent versions of the script it does it for you. They added it because Ubuntu/Debian is now so popular.
So, mine is right? :)

Can't hurt to add it.

Given it 1000MB in vmware. The peak is 859,000K (for this windows session, quite a few days, was almost certainly one of those big wus), currently 573,000K on a p2605 strangely enough.

Give it as much as poss, it won't use it all in my experience.

Post 1337, nice! :D
I missed mine :(

Automatic sync is either not working or too infrequent for my liking. Any ideas on how to make it:

1) Sync more frequently with servers in list, or
2) Sync with windows. There's a service for this, no?

This is AMD with a slow vmware clock.

I've selected those ones now, we'll see if it keeps up. I synched it manually when I last posted (18:29). It's now 23:09 and linux reckons 20:12, so it's really very slow indeed.

I'm prety sure I installed the patch but I'm not certain. Any way of checking? Where is the patch, link please? :)

Edit: it's on "BelowNormal" in windows so I can use the machine for other things at the same time. Might that have an effect?
