My turn for a linux thread

You are pointing your terminal to the /src folder before using scons? Like-
Code:
cd /*****/FahMon/src
scons

Maybe.

Tho I wouldn't worry too much. Cos it's beta work, Fahmon can tell you very little.

The percentage completed and the log are about the height of it.

Just noticed that the logs are a bit screwed up.

eg.
Code:
[00:36:42] Entering M.D.
[00:36:48] pleted 500000 out of 5000000 steps (10 percent)
[00:36:48] Extra SSE boost OK.
[00:36:48] E boost OK.
[00:36:48] 0 percent)
[00:36:48] Extra SSE boost OK.

Wierd :(

Mine's like that. It's normal.

Code:
[21:12:39] Entering M.D.
[21:12:45] Protein: SMP-nsv-03
[21:12:45] Writing local files
[21:12:46] percent)
[21:12:46] Extra SSE boost OK.
[21:12:46] E boost OK.
[21:12:46] 2 percent)
[21:12:46] Extra SSE boost OK.
[21:21:18] f 5000000 steps (33 percent)

Hmm, still seems a bit too much hassle at the mo'

I think I'll sit on the fence a bit...

Perhaps someone will do a complete setup guide for Linux noobs like me.

Then we'll see!!

;)

SMP Client on AMD64 Ubuntu

Code:
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
cd ~
mkdir foldingathome
cd foldingathome
wget [url]http://ra.vendomar.ee/~ivo/finstall[/url]
chmod +x finstall
./finstall smp
Then answer the prompts as you see fit.

Finally after the long bit about setting up as a service
Code:
./installService
And you're done :)

Used your little vmware guide above rich and am now crunching in xp. Nice to be back tbh. Can finally play some games again :D

t'was not mine - I just borrowed it from the main forums and updated the wget bit :p

glad you're sorted though - now let the fun and stomping begin! :D

Since the runs of these bad WUs which I think must be so they get folk to switch over to SMP ! Since I use a lot of apps that are XP only I'm now running ubuntu in a vmware client was easy to set up took me just over a hour which included me getting all the updates for Ubuntu.

Running just now on a 3025 WU each frame is taking just over 5 and half mins. So thats heading for over 1500ppd if my calculations are correct which is a lot better than what I have been getting recently. Might bump up the overclock to make up the loss through vmware.

Would be interesting to see what a E6600 overclocked to 3.2 running SMP in native linux is getting on a 3025 WU to see what the actual loss running through vmware is.

I don't know what I'm doing wron but i just can't get a reliable internet connection with ubuntu. I have access to these here forums and that's about it, EOC loads but it's like going back to a 14k modem:eek:
I've had a look at the linux forum here and it scared me too much to post :o I have no idea what i'm doing really.
I have dlink DSL504t router on a 2meg broadband connection that has a dhcp running on it with cat5 cable to my pc and wireless to the others.
In ubuntu system/admin/networking shows eth0 active and connection as dhcp.
What should I use in the DNS tab?

I've the exact same router dude.

You can find your ISP's DNS through Google.

And try lowering your MTU in your routers connection set-up to 1400. That should help EOC loading.

Why does it work perfectly with the other pcs and this one when I use W2Kpro?

edit, It was set at 1400 anyway.

I have a 504 at my parents home and a 604 with wireless at my house and have always had problems with the auto-DNS seeming to forget what it was doing after a few days.
I ended up by putting my ISPs DNS addresses on all my machines manually and that seems to stop it just suddenly forgetting where things are after a few days of operation.

Dunno if that would sort you out or not
