My UT3 experience with my physx card1

I've said it all along and I'm going to say it again. The PhysX card is a complete and total waste of money. The effects it gives are not worth it and often make the game look worse. Some games even suffer a major performance hit.

Seems like UT3 is no different :)

id be interested to see how ut3 runs with the ppu with a old cpu like a single core p4 or athon xp. would be interesting to see if the ppu makes more of a difference for those older systems.

It probably wouldn't save them since they still have to do a lot of work even when there's no physics.

lol. three quarters of this thread is full of 'i was right, see i told you' posts.
Surprising, isn't it. Well no, not really. :D

I wanted the physx cards to go well, as it could have done some amazing things. Do they have 'version 2' plans?

with multicore cpus and graphics cards with onboard physics processors I hardly see the need for a version 2 flop

What about the FPS difference. Run a timedemo and benchmark with and without the PPU you will get a FPS boost. Did you install the 7.11.13 drivers?

Most PPU owners are reporting up to 30fps boost over using the PPU over the CPU on the PPU level. Not sure why you get 6fps, I dont get that low and I have an old PC.

You’re all saying the PPU failed but there isn’t one single comparison in this thread with the PPU FPS numbers next to the CPU FPS numbers.

If the PPU is getting more then the CPU then its not failed.

Is it possible to run these physx levels without the card..and how are they loaded anyway? Ive ut3 and seen no mention of them.

edt

found them, dloading now.

ledbythereaper there are no timedemos and benchmarks. How can people say the PPU is failing in UT3 when there are no benchmarks showing it running slower then the CPU. A few forum people have said it runs faster with the PPU but none of them posted benchmarks, they just read the FPS counter.

Not found a way to do fair benchmarks my self yet.

I wouldn't know myself, I've read online that the twister level has stupidly low fps, but that may have to do with the additional particle effects and all the debris that the graphics card then has to render.

Yup had the same problems with physx cards in ut3 as well, bought the game thinking 'this is gonna be worth it'

Nope, a small bump in fps and quality in normal mode, fps death in ppu maps.

Sent my dell m1730 back anyway, overweight piece of expensive junk.

Going to buy a second 8800gtx and a 780i and the rest on a m1330.

IMO, PPU in it's current iteration = fail.

I bought two PyysX cards!........... but sold one for near the price of both so mine ended up costing me a fiver! So well worth a go. I'm enjoying UT3 but tbh, I don't know how much a difference PhysX makes, hell I don't know where the mod levels are that I downloaded and installed form UT3's site. lol
