myprotein users

ok cool. The main reason I bought it is because the price seemed good and it doesn't have any extra junk that I'm allergic to like oranges or peanuts.

Can you still make some nice shakes even without a blender? I was thinking of getting MP whey protein.

Sorry to hijack thread a little, didn't think it was worth creating a new one!

I'm 22, and I've started going to the gym regularly by joining Holmes Place gym. My goals are to increase strength and add muscle definition over the next 6 months (long goal I know). I don't want to be the next Arnie, or be a body builder. I just want to be physically stronger which will help with my sports.

In conjuction with this I'll be doing a little bit of cardio (HIIT). My diet is pretty balanced with the normal 3 meals a day, maybe the odd snack (mainly fruit).

So, a quick question for you supplement users...

Which would be better for me, to help me achieve my goals?

Purchase some egg whites and whey protein and have shakes after my workouts (is it wise to only have a shake strictly post workout)

OR

either cook 1 lean fresh chicken breast and eat it on it's own or an omlette made from 2 eggs.

My routine goes something like - breakfast, <work> lunch (sandwiches), snack(fruit), dinner(hot meal) <gym> - HUNGRY!

The hungry bit would be where I'd have my shake or chicken / omlette.

Which is better for me?? I've got a blender but it's a ballache to use and especially clean properly. Do you use milk or water with your why protien? Can you add the egg whites to the whey protein mix??

So many questions - apologies :)

Easy - BOTH!! :) Have whey (with carbs) immediately post workout and then chicken and/or eggs (with carbs) when you get home.

Real food is better but whey is convenient and post workout will be absorbed quicker. Don't worry about the blender, just get a shaker, add whey, carbs and water then shake it.

Milk will slow down absorption, personally i always have mine in water.

Don't worry, there was a hint of sarcasm. I will see improvements over the 6 month period with regards to strength though.

Thing is... one thing that is bugging me is I will be eating more, and eating more carbs. Therefore I will be putting on weight if I don't burn off this energy.

How much protein would be in the average sized chicken breast?

EDIT: What about egg whites? Do you add them in to your shakes?

Depends what you mean by egg whites. Powdered, pasteurised (like MP sell) or just raw eggs from supermarket?

With the current scare of bird flu I wouldn't eat raw eggs from supermarket right now.

I would hope so otherwise there's something wrong! Just don't expect anything too wild to happen. If you're already fit and active beginners gains might not be so great and after that its a long old slog! :(

If you wanna get stronger you're gonna have to gain lean muscle so you will put on weight. If you mean "will i get fat" then if you eat right then no, you won't get fat. The extra protein and carbs will be used to repair your muscles (and fuel the repair).

Average chicken boob is probably 125-150gms but there's added water so cooked weight will be less. Values roasted are....

per 100g
Total Cals - 165
Total Fat - 3.6 g
Saturated Fat - 1 g
Total Carbohydrates - 0 g
Dietary Fiber - 0 g
Sugars - 0 g
Protein - 31 g

I'm not a fan of eggs, don't eat them so i'm the wrong person to ask but people chuck them in shakes, porridge etc.

I'm very suprised to hear that! Can't you stand the taste?

I'm sure you know eggs are THE best source of protein available to us. I eat six a day usually!

6! You must be very smelly to be around during the day.

By egg whites I was on about the ones from MP. Are they worth the ££?

Omlettes and chicken boobs sound the better and tastier option, I was just weighing up my options to be honest :)
