hi all,

I have 7 hard drives in my system

SSD OCZ agility 128GB with Win 7 installed
2 x Seagate Baracuda 2TB SATA 3
2 x WD 500GB SATA 1.5
1 x WD 1TB SATA 2
1 x WD 250gb SATA 1.5

MOBO is ASUS P7X79 PRO
Intel i7 3820 @ 3.6ghz
16 gb Patriot Extreme Masters RAM

Whenever i move files from one HD to another just using windows i never get more than 50-60 mbps transfer rate?

I guess im wondering if ive got the system setup wrong, or just need a lesson in harddrives!

Looking at your list of drives, that sounds quite possible.

A 250gb/500gb SATA-1 hard drive is likely to be old and slow.

Between the 2 Barracuda's I'd probably expect closer to 100mbps (assuming large files, and not lots of small files), and just over 100mbps to/from the SSD/Barracuda's.

Also, copying lots of small files takes longer than copying one big file.

If you have AV software, it'll be scanning each file as it's copied.

Okay thats what i thought - im pretty sure i have all the right drivers etc installed so figured that age of drive and the older sata interface would be the problem.
