N96 killer ?

Horses for courses.

I decried the iPhone since it came out a gimmicky and nothing new (e.g. I've been watching video on my phone since my 6630).

However, since I used one I now feel that they iPhone interface is much better for me than the s60 UI. Things may take longer, but they are intuitive and they don't feel longer because the interface is such a pleasure.

This samsung looks good though.

It's feel nicer because of the UI transitions. The INNOV8 uses very similar transitions and I believe that it's a standard feature of S60 v3.2.

Carphone Warehouse have announced the phone for September. I think that's a bit optimistic though.

Why is everyone shouting "N96 killer"? It's pretty sad that the N96, which seems to me as being just a polished N95 3rd gen will be the phone to beat. the 8gb has been out for yonks and the only thing that Nokia could do was add 8gb, and other companies are only now catching up. It's a separate point, but while kudos to Nokia for being the benchmark, they've really had far more time to come up with something a bit more innovative.
As for the Samsung, the main reason I would *hate* to have one would be the menu system, though seeing as it's s60 it looks to be promising. What other features will it have, exactly, that the N96 won't? And the repetitiveness of the mentioning of the 8mp camera... I'd *still* stick to my 3.2 K800 camera even now that I have an N95. Who cares about pixellage, until i see example shots I won't be close to convinced.
I'm not a fanboy by any means, I'll just try to go with the best phone. And the i8510 certainly doesn't stick out from the crowd at the minute.

Ok, so the quality does look impressive.

Now, as an owner of the n95, i have to say i'm quite interested in this phone. I base this on the fact that when i simplify things, i use my phone for
1) texting
2) calling people
3) taking photos
4) taking videos

This looks like it'll cater for everything more than any other phone. The n96 looks boring, and has nothing majorly added to it to warrent buying it. GPS may be good, but only if it's used.

This Samsung is WAY sexier than the n96 though definitely.

Still, since my contracts up in September, i think i may go payg for a while as there are just no phones coming out that capture the imagination and are half decent. Even the Xperia looks like an ugly windows based brick.

Boring video of someone playing with the phone. Shows you some settings tho, and a look at the menus. He also plays some "slow mo" video which i think this phone can do.

Tell me, what's the real difference between this, and the n96 then? I've read a brief review and they seem pretty much exactly the same bar 8mp.

No idea what the N95/96 brings to the table. I think the N96 is a polished up N95? With a tv tuner and better camera? I don't know though.

I've just had Samsungs in the past and i like them, so looking at this for my next phone, as my old phone is dead.

The n96 IS just an improvement on the n95. The tv tuner won't work here and there's the added feature of being able to tag photo's with the gps position at the time. Bar that, there's not a lot.

Spec wise this Samsung brings exactly the same, or more to the table, plus the added feature of an improved camera and video capabilities....

I've been searching for months for a new phone and i think i may have just found it!

er geo tagging has been on the n95/82 for ages so scrap that as an improvement :p

n96 is not enough of a leap imo

looks like a good phone, not a fan of the menu system though

and that youtube vid with all that button pressing clicking, thats going to annoy me

That's just S60 for you. Called up Carphonewarehouse for more info. They have a product number for the 8gb version, but they can't confirm a release date. "Anytime within the next 6 weeks" he's quoted as saying.

Good news like.
