My tyres are only cheap'o's so im thinking if its worth just replacing the tyre. They possibly have a good few 1000 miles left in them thou so im thinking perhaps a repair is in order. Are repairs risky or not?

Depending on where it is, it is possible (and quite easy/safe) to repair them.

Your local tyre place will be able to tell you for definite.

My mum had one of her Jazz tyres plugged at ATS. We took them the wheel and they did it for 20 quid. Worked as it should without problem for a couple of months now and my mum aint the most easy going of drivers!

Pair of tyres, £40ish each vs £20 for an easy fix.

had a nail in my tyre last week and when i went to get it repaired i was told it was too close to the wear bar and they wouldnt do it. the guy then looked at the tyre and said this is 5 years old (means its been on the car since new) and had done 55k miles. its the only tyre i havent replaced

Last time (the only time) I got a tyre repaired I ended up taking it to a Charlie Brown's or something like that on Chillingham Road in Heaton. I didn't even get charged anything for it, and it had a nice horseshoe nail in it. So I gave the lad who did it a fiver and told him to buy a couple of beers or something.

In my old car I had a puncture fixed for £5 - The tyre lasted another 29 000 miles. Always get them repaired if the puncture is on the tread.

I thought most tyre places will always insist you change pairs of tyres if there is a reasonable difference in tyre wear or you are changing brands/model of tyre, how did you get into the situation of only having 1 well worn tyre?

As for the OP, I always feel uneasy about repairs, but the new 'rules' or guidelines or whatever at least seem to be common sense and I can't see the harm, although £20 is a bit steep, I suppose things are just more expensive, when I had a major puncture last year, it wasn't repairable, and I had to get a pair of tyres @ £250, so £20 would seem a bargain in that case!

Bloody hell, I just paid £11.95 and I thought that was expensive. I took it to a place I really didnt wanna take it to. IE MR TYRE lol, but it will keep me going for a bit.. Cheers for your comments..

Any repairs on tyres I have always had for free. As for repairs being risky, if it is they won't do it so worth taking it in for them to have a look. As already said if you get the tyre replaced and there is a good amount of wear you really should replace the pair.

Get a puncture repair kit and do it yourself. Always useful to keep with you.

Had 3 punctures whilst driving out bush and fixed 2 of them within 10 mins.

Easiest repair kit ever!

I am in this situation, I cleaned up and painted my brake drums a couple of weeks ago and found 2 nails in the drivers side and 3 in the passenger side tyres at the back, they arent new but do have a good 10,000 in them with only being rears. I considered my options, it looks like they have all been in for some considerable time and are well embedded in the tyre, I am keeping an eye on them all the time and have the spare wheel if need be anyway. I think I will just get them replaced in the next couple of months.

£20 to repair a tyre?? omg
We charge £8 for puncture repairs where we actually plug it, £5 for re seals and stuff...
and cleaning rims up...

ATS are blooming expensive! ive known people buy tyres from them and they charge at least £50 mor than us a tyre!

imo, if it aint going down, then leave them alone :D

im sure that if you took your tyre to a garage they would tell you that if its too close to the side wall then they cannot repair it.. if its isnt too close then they can repair it, i do suggest to shop around tho, £20 sounds a bit steep imo.

Repairs are 100% safe, compared to a price of a new tyre i would get it repaired.

had mine done this week it was either £10 for a fix or £15 for a part worn so went for the part worn , but a repair can be found for a fiver around here
