Nails

Not as much as I should, i get these little bits of skin that stick up around my nail, always bite them etc, it's annoying but I can't seem to stop..
 
Chronic biter here... sometimes I'll manage to not not bite for a couple of weeks, but then in the end I always bite. :(

Spit, of course, no-one (sane) intentionally swallows nails! I can easily end up with a small mound of chewed nail pieces below wherever (apart from my own apartment funnily enough, ahem) I am sitting... it's pretty gross. :o
 
Biter with the odd serviced nail cutting using one of the nail clipper things.

Ripping nails? Need to be careful there, it can easily rip back into your cutical/skin at the base of the nail and it stings for days! :p

When much younger, I bit mine right down to the quick (the pink bit, right?).

Later on, I was very Goth... as in full-on London scene, down the Batcave, Gossips, The Dev and occasionally Slimelight. This resulted in a phase where I had 3/4" talons, sharpened to a point and painted gloss black whenever I wasn't at work. Women seemed to love it, especially as I did mine better than they did theirs!

Being a bloke, my nails rarely chipped or broke and my thumbnails were strong and sharp enough that I could slit open a carton of milk or orange juice as if I held a knife - Fantastic party trick, I tell ya!!

Eventually I grew properly up, got a job of manual labour and lopped them dead short again. These days they're clipped to the quick, as it allows me to type much faster and using WASD + SHIFT is so much easier!!

This. It's a real pain in the behind when my nails get just slightly too long to comfortably hold down a chord and I've got no scissors or clippers handy! Also, cutting my right hand's nails down too much so I can't fingerpick gets rather frustrating. Guitar player problems!

I didn't say it was OK, I just could see why some people did it.
But I don't feel anything if I'm tearing off a hangnail?


Maybe it's in the same bracket as thumb sucking, a surrogate suckling activity?
 
i bit me nails but i suffer with dry skin around them a little and tend to pick that to bits too. :( more so than biting the nails and no doubt caused by myself
