Depending on ethnicity, I don't think this is such a bad move. Most people won't even understand the reference anyway. I like unique and rare names.

To be honest depending on the reason for the middle name i reckon they'll go through life calling him tom, it's not uncommon for people to use their middle name as their primary one, my mum changed hers when she was younger from her given name of valarie to her middle name of jane.

Earlier this year Bethesda announced a contest where any child named after Dovahkiin, meaning Dragonborn in dragon language, on 11/11/11 would win free Bethesda games for life.

No worse than naming your child after a place, a grape variety or giving them a surname for a forename.

Examples:
Brooklyn, Chelsea etc
Chardonnay
Tyler etc
