Narrowed down my choice to two DSLRs..details inside

I am going to wait for the 70D price, if thats right, i will wait for comparisons between that and the 7D

The 7d mkii is much too much

I should stop looking at nikons, every one seems cheaper than its respective canon grr

BUT i have committed, im hoping canon at least hold some resale value!

Edit, i should also ask what lenses to start looking at?
I have one i have already ordered

I've got the 7000 and it is a lovely camera. I went from using Canon to Nikon and although it was a little awkward initially you soon get used to it. The Nikon is great for low light and landscape stuff.

Had it not been for my partner having canon i thhink id have got the 7100

But i will probably end up doing little low light/landscapes which makes me feel better

70D is tempting but I don't think it's where I would get value from upgrading. A 70-200 lens will do me much more favors

FYI, the first reliable sensor emasurements are out
http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Pu...on-EOS-70D-vs-60D-sensors-Incremental-advance

very slight bump over previous gen Canon sensor so that is a little disappointing. Personally on the Canon side I would hunt for a second hand 7D and check the sensor is OK.

yes, from the sounds of it they have changed other things over the actual sensor

the dual focus, lcd screen being touch, swivel etc

i was a little disappointed myself, but tbh i am a little reluctant to get a second hand 7D as there are probably a lot of potential issues i wouldnt immediately spot.

Actually, reading that again, i dont think i can stomach the cost for such a mediocre camera, the nikon absolutely kills it

Personally I wouldn't ever get a 7D, with Canon I would look to go FF. Sure the 7D is fast and they have a deep buffer but that about it and I use neither of those. Switched over to D7000 instead (loved that camera, the sensor was AMAZING for an apsc) and then upgraded from there. If Sony make some major improvements in the tech of it's camera bodies as has been rumoured, then I may switch to Sony and throw out my tripod.
I don't know why neither Canon or Nikon can't offer body stabilisation, especially when Olympus can do it so well.

im tempted to get an average canon and not buy anything else for it until something gives

i keep looking at the canon stuff and seeing a price tier above others

i cant really justify FF and nor do i think it would be the best for what i want to do
I was really really hoping the 70D would be more than what it is.

I probably would have gone for a D7100 if I was buying my first DSLR, I don't really like Nikon's menu system and the way the feel though. I was never really expecting great strides from Canon.

The 70D looks like a great camera. But a great, rather over-priced camera at this stage. I'm hoping it drops down to a more realistic -- IMO -- £900 in the Xmas sales.

The 50 & 60D both dropped fairly quickly once the early adopters had paid their "early tax". A 60D is 'only' £450 on Ebay now though, so I may shelve my plans for the 70D and buy more glass instead. The video and touch screen stuff is very nice to have, but it's not £600 nice! :-)

Going back to something you said earlier though, there was no doubt to me when I was deciding whether to jump from Pentax to Canon or Nikon that the Canon felt better in my hand.

Given that these things are tools as much as tech, that's an important consideration... though I can't help feeling that they deliberately make the cheaper models less comfortable to hold, to lure you up the value chain. It;s not just about keeping the lower end range more compact and less intimidating.

It's 850 from digital rev now, still a lot more than the 7d and d7100.. Definitely getting a grey

If I had a camera now I would wait but I have nothing

yeah i know, ill get it on Ccard so if there are any delivery problems at least it will be ok
also Digital rev seem to have a good rep
there is also Hdew cameras who have a uk presence, but will probably go with digital rev

To be honest you won't be disappointed with anything you buy, most DSLRs are capable of exceptional images, you just have to work out what features you want and use what feels comfortable. The 70D feels so much nicer to handle than my 550D. I've been doing a lot more video too now it has proper AF and a flippy outy screen.

the 70d is 849 now on digi rev so i might get it next week,
canon have the 65mm 5x macro too

Is the 60d vs the 70d pretty similar except for the video?
It's about half the price!

Main points the 70D has over the 60D

- 2MP more
- Digic 5+ means slightly better noise handling and slightly better dynamic range
- 19 Crosstype AF points over the 9 on the 60D
- Phase Detect AF for Video, and ALL-I compression
- 7fps (vs 5.3) and better buffer
- Remote control via wifi / EOS Remote
- Slightly bigger viewfinder
- Touch screen
- Up to 7 bracketed exposures vs 3

There's more, but those are the main things. It depends on what you want.
