NAS access issue

I have a Synology DS112j and for some reason it looks like the network card has gone on it (I've tried 2 switches/routers, different network cables and also plugged directly into my router as it was on a powerline) but cannot get any lights on the ethernet port and the LAN light on the front panel doesn't light.

Does anyone have any suggestions to being able to get onto the drive to copy my data off the Hdd that's in there (I assume I cannot remove the Hdd and see it in Windows)?

Yeah looks like I need Ubuntu installed to read the drive, just downloaded it and burnt a DVD, going to see if I can install to a USB stick to boot from but it does look as though my Diskstation is borked grrrr.

You can just boot a Ubuntu usb stick or DVD.

Can use Rufus to 'burn'the iso to a USB stick. Boot from it, you'll have a 'live' version that runs in memory.

Or just buy a new Synology unit and pop the drive in, pretty sure it will just migrate the data. (Look this up first to confirm!)

I would still do the Ubuntu thing.

Also, this highlights why you should keep a backup of your NAS data.

Completely agree. Always backup the NAS data. I use external drives and also NAS to NAS backups.
