Hi guys i want to order a NAS that is either 1tb or one that i can put HDD into, hope that made sense.

I have the netgear sc101 at the mintue and it is ****, i hate having to install software all the time so the new one must be able to be controlled directly from MY computer like a proper Hard drive.

I was looking at this one here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-140-MD&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=707

Is it good or bad

any suggestions are welcome, oh one last thing it must have gigabite ethernet for large file transfer

Anything with Samba software installed will give you direct access from my computer (mapped drive) or through network neighbourhood.

Gb ethernet will help but only with huge files. I see a 1mb/s difference between 1Gb and 100mb connection. If your moving that size of file you really need FTP access in case the worst happens!

u don't need Gb ethernet. But large files will take longer on 100Mb ethernet compaired with Gb.

Copying 1Tb on a 100mb ethernet will take a smigin under 28 hours. I paid £600 for a Thecus N5200 as it will transfer data at 30 mb/s, which is vital if you want the NAS to run as a surrogate hard disk.
