NAS recommendations

I've had several over the past 7 or 8 years.

Buffalo, Netgear and then Synology. I am now on my 3rd Synology unit and in all honesty the only other ones I'd look at now would be QNAP.

Would you still recommend Synology as your next one or are you looking to move away to QNAP? I've used a 412+ for years and am really impressed, especially with the inclusion of BTRFS in the latest update. I wouldn't rule out a move though if there are better alternatives.

Synology tend to have the edge in software support, QNAP slightly better in hardware so depends what your requirements are - QNAP can sometimes be a bit more expensive for the same overall capabilities if you aren't utilising some of the additional hardware.

I've been running a 412 for years and highly impressed how QNAP have kept up on the support side and touch wood has been solidly reliable hardware wise as well.

Confused me for a moment until I realised QNAP also do a 412, Looks to be a close competitor with the 412+ from Synology from that year.
