So I bought myself a WD Cloud 4TB to network.

Everything is fine with it and nice easy set up, it does however seem to have a rather big problem playing back Video files directly from my PC via my Virgin Media router, in fact at times I notice the transferr speed can drop off altogether...then pick up again,,, then up down etc.

Would this be more the fact the VM router cant handle it very well, or is their something else?

Strange thing is testing it Wirelessly networked to my Xbox One, it seems to stream films fine.

its deffo a router issue
i have the same WD cloud 4tb and it works perfectly fine here without any stuttering or lag or anything. ditch the free isp router asap most of the time there crap.

get a asus 68u its what i have but its quite expensive router
or get the one under it as there both great...

anything with a ofcom chipset should be good also as well as broadcom.
also pay attention to the speed of the routers lan port. giga lan ports are better.

Your NAS and your PC are on your network, and the virgin router sits between them?
Assuming you're not using wireless, buy a gigabit switch for under £20.

I use a VM Superhub 2ac, have no speed issues with my Synology DS214+, get a consistent 112MB/sec over wired. If you're using an older superhub you may be able to get VM to upgrade it.

Do a speed test between them? IE transfer a large file and post the (consistent) speeds.

Sent a large movie file over WiFi from my Surface, averaging about 9mbps sending to it. The odd sudden dip but nothing much, not compared to the wired networked connection. My PC is LAN cable attached tot eh VM hub as well.

If its a superhub then it should be 1gbps. If you're getting 9mbps then something is clearly wrong. Dodgy network cable?

Don't go replacing the router just yet. Check and see what rates the pc and nas are syncing at.

Edit: ugh, didn't read your last post properly. Check the transfer rate when wired. It should anywhere from 300mbps upwards, depending on the drive config. If its anything like 9mbps then its a network/nas issue.

That's the thing...the PC is wired directly into the VM Hub!

ANd that where I have the video playback issue, I have to do a large transferr and see what I get on it.

However playing video over Wifi Seems to be fine...really odd.

If it's wired, and you're not having an issue over WiFi, then it could be a wired issue, which isn't odd at all :p Get a big file transferring over the exact same connection as the one you're having a problem with, and post the speeds :)

SO sending a large movie file from my PC to the NAS WD drive, I got a pretty solid just over 11mbs the whole time, via cable though the VM Roter.

Sma efile back into the internal PC HD seems to be the exact same...hmmmm seems odd...might have to try it again.

Okjay screw this...it seems to be playing back like its fine!

Can things get tough for the VM Router perhaps if WiFi is getting hammered etc?

11MB/sec I assume you mean, poor speed, but it wouldn't impede streaming, though it looks like something is limited to 100mbps ethernet, either the router, the nas, or the pc.

As above, check what all cables are CAT5E or above, check the router supports Gigabit, check the devices on each end support Gigabit.
