Didn't know whether to put this in here or in networks, so sorry if it's in the wrong forum.

I've had my NAS4220 with 1x WD Green 500GB in it for about 18months now. For the past 6months the drive has been basically unusable. Due to uni exams and work I haven't had the time to mess around with it to try and get it to work. If I unplug and reboot the box, the drive becomes accessible again for about 5-10mins, then ceases to work again.

I've more or less given up on getting it to work so my main goal now is to try and retrieve the data off of it. Can I just remove the drive from the enclosure and plug it in to my PC? Will the PC be able to access the data on it or is it formatted differently?

This NAS has been far more trouble than it's worth. Thank's for your help in advance.

Depends what format the drive is ( eg fat32/ntfs/ext3)

You can use a usb caddy to attach the HD to a PC then use utils to read etx3 (linux) format
disks under windows and then export out the data you want to keep
