Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe faces a new, unspecified charge, according to a report on Iranian state TV, which also said she had appeared in court on Tuesday morning.

The report did not elaborate beyond saying Zaghari-Ratcliffe has appeared before a branch of the country’s revolutionary court in Tehran, where she was first sentenced in 2017.

The new indictment comes as Britain and Iran negotiate the release of £400m held by London, a payment the late Iranian Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi made for Chieftain tanks that were never delivered. (LINK)
This is an utterly shameful, spiteful act by the Iranian authorities. No matter that Britain chose to hang onto the money paid out under the Shah's tyrannical regime and Boris Johnson while Foreign Secretary stupidly put his foot in it, the poor woman and her child should not be unjustly held against her will as some sort of bargaining chip.

Many of my Iranian friends would love to see the "tyrant" return.... Anyone who drives his Lamborghini Miura daily on thick snow gets my vote ;)

That's what you get with medieval religious maniacs trying to be a government. She is not the only dual national being held and sadly it is a **** hole that no sane person should wish to visit.

Before the revolution, it was a very progressive and beautiful country.

Foreign prisoners will always be used for political means by the Iranian government.
As was Afghanistan, women went to university, held important roles in society etc. people were relatively free. However let in the mad mullahs with their partisan and false views and it all goes horribly wrong.

I can't believe she went there after what she had been upto, totally nieve!

Nothing that I have read or heard justifies her spiteful imprisonment.
Well being involved in training pro-democracy reporters in Iran during the Arab Spring, sorry I mean "doing the photocopying" at the BBC department engaged in that, whilst a noble act, is likely to put you on the wrongside of the regime and should be enough to perhaps strike that country off the holiday list.

Where are all the feminist groups, and similar, when there is a real issue going on like this?

They need to release her. If they impose another prison sentence then they make themselves look stupid.

I blame our Government for not doing enough in this case - Although that makes you wonder if what she was charged with may be correct?

But then again, I wouldn’t put it past our awful Government for just doing **** all as there is no real benefit for them doing so.

For the British Government there are a few hundred millions that they acknowledge thay have been sitting on for more than 40 years; they do have a record of interfering in the Middle East and of course, they can't afford to upset Trump and his lunatic fringe.

It's amazing how much more Western/modern these natuions were than even Western nations of the time. Freedom was a reality, more than America in some cases which was just realising racism etc were bad things...

There are countless photos online of the times before the revolution, check out one such example here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-47032829

Progress was not made for the innocent citizens of these countries, their "leaders" failed them in an effort for greed and total control and sadly these days those times will never be realised by current citizens.

It's not a feminist issue though is it?

Well, its a woman being held in a country that treats women like second class citizens.

She should be released. I respect that Iran has its own system and way of doing things. But this just makes them look vengeful. Even in the worst case scenario it doesn't warrant a double trial.
