NEC LCD24WMGX3 Professional Gaming 24" Widescreen

i love the monitor heh,

i have noticed what people are talking about with the ghosting with this pannel but its so small its hardly even noticible

and the blacks WOW 1000000x better blacks than the acer G24 that i sent back.

viewing angles are very very good aswell...

its a keeper ;)

HDMI : optimization :
the only settings i changed on the pannel where

Game 1 mode
Brightness 26.7
contrast 50
sensor off
black level 50
through : on
sharpness :26.2

awsome screen it really is calibrated good out of the box apart from it being extreamly bright so turn that down to 26.7 from 100 when you get it.
also some people compain that there is flickering going on or something when through mode is on, i just dont see it at all :)

hmmm

on the desktop and when viewing HIGH DEF 1920x1080p content i dont see any flickering at all

all i notice though is the screen dulls when i select level 1 and levels 2 and 3 are the same as level 1 no extra dulling..

or does this happen in games ?

im loving the black level on hdmi, when the screen dulls with level 1 i just nock the black level up 1 notch and its back to normal

do i have a defective pannel cause if yours flickers and mine doesnt then what does that mean ?

Either you have less sensitive eyes (yes, that is possible) or you have simply screen that really does not flicker in MP mode. They specifically write in manual that with MP MODE ON the screen MAY flicker (not must, but may).

Btw I tried HDMI as well, connected the hdmi cable into HDMI 1 and the transferer from DVI to HDMI on my graphics, the picture quality looks the same, though there are some additional settings (black level one of them, although 50 looks best and is the same as on DVI).

yeah the only diffrence between DVI and HDMI picture quality is indeed the same, the only thing that HDMI offers is audio aswell and has few diffrent functions on the pannel ;P

unfortunatly though i think im going to send the monitor back to OCUK for a replacment of the same model becuse there is 1 pixel on the monitor that is DRIVING ME LITERALY INSAINE

in cod4 its just right above the crosshair

when viewing a completely black screen , the pixel is pure WHITE!
so on dark games like for instance DOOM 3 the pixel is right in my face

i have tryed literly everything possible to fix it, massaging it with a cotton bud, you name it i have done it and it wont vanish at all

the other pixel top right black screen, blue pixel isnt as noticible as the one in the center of the screen

yup im really dissapointed, lately everything i buy from OCUK is broken or defected when i have gotten it

from 3 hdds to 1 tft, this is the 2nd has had issues.
also when i got the box the seal on the box looked like it had been opened.
i would have hated to think that OCUK have shipped out me the monitor from there clearance line on the fly lol

either way the monitor is going back.

btw do nec have a good warantee service ? i mean they should replace my pannel right for the fault i have with it

i know they wont replace if it only has 2 flaky pixels but what about a pure white pixel on a black background right in the middle of the screen..

i mean its distracting as hell, i cant play dark games cause of it

From what I can tell the warranty service from NEC is totally awesome, here's what hapenned to me:

Bought NEC 20WGX2 approx. 3 years ago.

USB ports stopped working at some point, I finally got around to calling NEC who advised they would send me a replacement and collect my old monitor (new one received first, old one collected after).

A few days later I hadn't heard anything so I called them and was told because they no longer make my monitor and they had no stock that they would upgrade me to the newer model for free (24WMGX3).

That was yesterday, today my new one arrived and I couldn't be happier, fantastic monitor and fantastic service from NEC!

Give them a call and see what they can do for you, the UK number is 08701 201160 for LCD service and warranty line.

I've not had any stuck/dead pixel issues with either monitor either, both perfect.

Just finished on the phone with NEC.

what a great bunch of people, there going to send me out a brand new one today for delivery on monday then they are going to pick this one up on tuesday to go back to them..

i even asked them if there would be any chance they could test the one they where going to send me for backlight bleed + dead pixels and she said yes we can do that
i couldnt beleave it lol

cant wait untill monday to have a fully tested pannel :D

Your right Eulogy, NEC do have a awsome Warantee Service.

So...they are switching your panel ONLY with two stuck pixels?

Because I have one RED stuck that is ALWAYS red, it is not noticeable in games and movies, only in windows, but it still sucks..

And then I have one probably dead (always black) completely on the left side...just found it yesterday...that one is completely unnoticeable, even in windows, but it still sucks : ).

But since I live in Czech, I would not be talking to NEC but rather their service center here...and I doubt they would send me a new tested one...damn I wanna live un UK now : ).But maybe I will call them anyway and see what is what.

ViRuS2k let us know what that new monitor is like mate as I am debating still between this and the Benq FP241W, I am debating whether the extra £80+ is worthi it for the NEC.

heh, afk mate i already know its worth it.

i had a Acer G24 before i got this pannel and it was terrible

massive backlight bleeding, very noticible color shift when you moved your head a inch from the center of the screen

most games i have tryed and i havent noticed a single ghosting lol also with mp on i dont see any type of flickering going on

the Acer G24 was ment to be a great TN pannel aswell but after having this nec AMVA pannel i will never ever go back to useing TN based pannels ever again

also the viewing angles on this NEC is trully breathtaking compaired to the TN pannel i had.

and paul mate i think the only reason im getting mine exchanged wasnt so much becuse of the blue pixel at the top right of the screen it was the pure white pixel in the center of the screen
as that pixel is totaly distracting and also playing games with dark levels or what ever or dark movies showed that pixel up every time i couldnt help but notice it lol

though sitting 5 feet away from the screen i couldnt see it but i like to game with my face 2 feet away from the screen :P

so far im liking NEC warantee support team. :) the woman on the phone was nice to speak to aswell.

Just got mine today, just one problem, everything is great all the ports work etc. Just when I play my xbox 360 at 1080p(have not tried other HD resolutions) there is an extremely thin green line at the very edge of the left hand side of the panel going from top to bottom. I know its not really so much a problem with the panel because when i switch the 360 off and its a plain black screen the line isn't there and it isn't there when watching blu-ray films.

Also at the same time I have never seen so many options on a screen. So just wondering what good optimizing settings to make sure are there? (Not connected to a PC, Yet!) Just thought I would grab it while it was on offer because with prices everywhere else being 600+ I doubt it was going to get any cheaper and I knew I could still use it for my devices.

that thing line isnt a issue with the pannel
you can fix it by doing the following :

Go to your xbox 360 display settings/HDMI Color Space/ and change the setting from YCBCR709 to source.

this will fix your 1920x1080p green line down the left side of the screen issue ;)

Has anyone been able to get their PS3 to display in 1080p hooked up to the hdmi port on this monitor? Every time I try and change the setting in the ps menu the screen flashes to a snowy pixel background a few times then goes back to the menu and hasnt changed the setting to 1080p. I tried changing some of the settings on the monitor and I somehow managed to get the ps to recognise 720p, but I really want to get that full hd output! I think it's something to do with the resolution 1920x1200 and screen stretching thats causing problems but I'm still pretty confused how to sort this.
Great monitor though, upgraded from a 17" dell crt, blows it away. There are a few dead pixels around the edge of the screen. And there were two stuck pixels, one which seemed rather large couple inches upper right of centre, blue colour. And another up towards the upper right corner, very small also blue. Today the smaller one is gone and the bigger one is now bout the size of the small one!? Is it usual/unusual for stuck pixels to behave like this? Anyway not sure if I will try and get a replacement as from about a metre away I can't see it unless I'm totally squinting/focusing on the area and the game/film scene is dark and then its tiny, up close its still only really noticable on a dark screen and if im focusing on the area.
Cheers,

ps. been using the hdmi cable included with the monitor

Would they have done that if it wasn't a pixel right in the middle do you think?

thanks for that :) I knew it wasn't the panel, had to be something i was setting or had already set because that line ONLY appeared on my 360.
