Need a fun SUV - £20-£25k ish

340 mile round trip could be done with no charging in some EVs or a 5min charge in many others. 5 mins a fortnight isn’t too bad is it (especially given the hundreds of ££ fuel saving could be used to get a better/newer car.. or just have more spare cash for other things).

Sounds like you didn’t get on with the Tesla but there’s loads of more traditional options that would definitely be worth a look before discounting them.

Saying you simply don't like EVs and don't want one will trigger people in a way that saying you simply don't like diesels (for example) wouldn't.

It’s more the fact that - if you love driving - they are just so much better and it’s sad that driving enthusiasts might be missing out.

What EV can do 340 mile motorway trips on one charge ?

So you drive after a 9 hour flight with zero sleep, so you are admitting to dangerous driving then?

Yep....absolutely been doing it for nearly 10 years, you ever worked night shifts and driven home after?
Been driving 30 years and at nearly 50 years old got 0 points and never had any, 20+ years no claims and never had an accident. Worst I've had is a Bus lane violation from Sheffield City council a few parking tickets here and there.

Keep the arguments coming fella, seems like you really want me to like EV's.

Don't give a monkeys chuff, just like watching your hypocritical excuses, rather than from the outset just saying "Don't want an EV, as I don't like electric powertrains for no reason at all"

Not a big fan of you driving dangerously and then saying an EV would make that worse, talk about walking into your own failure. Tired to suggest a sensible comfortable alternative to your current E-Class, and you test drive a Model Y, why did you test drive if you already knew you hated them so much, you don't like wasting time by the sounds of things yet that is exactly what you did by your own admission.

There isn't an argument here, do what ever you like, but just be honest not disguise it in excuses.

Test drove one because I was there looking at the X30d anyway and I'd never actually driven a Tesla, so why not eh while I was there?
Not hard to have ones mind changed is it if somehting clicks, in this case it did not and my opinion remained the same if not even more so towards not liking with literally everything stuck in an iPad.

Also disguising what in exuses fella? That I dont like EV's? What am I disguising here, a secret closet love of them.

That makes zero sense since a Tesla is the further away from a 'normal' car that you could get with everything in an 'iPad'. Once again I suggested an EQC, you have ignored that due to the power train, go get a GLC/GLE then. You are using hte excuse of not liking Tesla to give the result for all cars with an electric power train due to 'ipad' then afterwards when challenged said you didn't like EV's. *Picard forehead slap GIF*

Mercedes EQS and EQE, Tesla Model S Long Range, Audi A6 etron, New Model 3 Long Range, New RWD Taycan

Prob a few more I’ve forgotten.

But TBH 5 mins charging once a fortnight opens up loads of other options too

None will do that in a motorway, they need 100kwh batteries for that Maybe you are confused with WLTP numbers.

I guess the model S might but that’s an old car now

They will do 340. Model S has done over 400 (Edinburgh to London) sticking to the speed limit.

If @Columbo didn’t like the Tesla especially the screen - fair enough it is quite different from traditional cars. Why not have a try in a Mercedes or an Audi which will be much more familiar.
If you don’t like them then at least you’ve tried them.

As you already have a charger and a driveway you’d be all set for near-zero cost fuel and never having to visit a petrol station again.

@blun they have stated they just don't like EV's irrational dislike, or whatever. No point in talking to someone who drives after no sleep on a 9 hour flight about logic and reason, and stopping actually maybe helping if they have a rest. You'll just end up going around in circles and we are at the stage now where you are just wasting your time, irrational is irrational, you can't help them with that.

Projecting a bit. He probably flys business if he's doing a regular to Atlanta; and ain't no way I am flying 9 hours and wanting to stop to re-charge.

It's why I keep the E43 going - I often need to do 100mile -> drive around -> 100 mile; and an EV just wouldn't cut it for that use case.

Almost any EV could do that - it’s only 200-250 miles?!

This isn’t an EV thread so shouldn’t take it off topic but charging for 5 minutes to add 80+ miles to get home is same/less than stopping for petrol / a wee / a takeaway coffee.

As others have said with destination charging appearing everywhere now you can leave the car charging while you’re at the airport (or wherever) as another option.

You're right let's not take it off topic but let's not kid ourselves that a 200mile motorway trip + 50 odd in the middle is comfortable for most EVs at the moment. My pug has a stated range of 280odd and it wouldn't have a chance unless I drafted a hgv in lane 1 the entire way. My e43 can blast down the M1 without a second thought, and make it back again, and go again....

So his use case isn't really cricket and the whole stopping for a wee is a geriatric excuse at best lol. Maybe on a 200mile one-wayer but not an airport journey with enough variables as it is.

Indeed. Personally I hate having to crawl around below 20% too with snail mode pending just to eek out a full charge. However I also hate stopping. 5min charges don’t exist. Just getting off the road to the charger and back to the road takes about 5mins. Let alone the charging time.

And if you drive for work EV make no sense. 7p a mile now thanks to HMRC
