Hi all,

I have an electrical device I need to get a fuse for. I know it takes a 'mini glass' type fuse but I don't know which amp.
Do you think if I got a selection of fuses and started with a small amp working up would be ok?

Car thing right ? emailed manufacturer? You will just be blowing fuses if you do it your way eheh but if you have the wrong one and it works might be unsafe.

I take it the fuse is an internal one then?

If so the fuse details should from memory be stamped on the metal ends somewhere (you may need very good lighting to see it), I wouldn't start small and work up with it because
1: There are loads of different types of mini fuse (both in ampage* and if it's qucik blow, slow blow etc)
2: If there is a fault that caused the original to blow, you may end up putting a much higher rated fuse in and totally negating the reason for an internal fuse (killing something much more expensive than a tuppence fuse, when it doesn't blow).

*I think i've still got some rated at something like 0.03amp lying around from repairing SNES's.

Cheers for replies guys. Yes it's internal.

I can see now how starting low and working up could cause problems.
I can't find the original fuse though, i'll have another look around and see.

When I removed the original fuse the 'wire' was just not connected. I replaced it with another glass fuse I had (I thought all glass fuses had the same amp). This time the fuse turned black where it seems the metal wire had burned up.

Does the appliance not have a power consumption in Watts marked on it somewhere. Perhaps if you let us know more details of the device we could help more.
