I have just got myself a laptop to game on and need a mouse that will compliment it, I play mostly FPS. Looking at something that is not too over priced but not cheap and nasty. Hopefully something upto around £30.

As i have never bought a gaming mouse i don't know what to look for so some help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have been looking at that mouse but it looks rather ugly and i thought it may be uncomfortable to use with all the bumbs and dents in it. May have to read a few more of the reviews about it.

What is the difference between laser and optical? Is optical old tech now or not?

correction: THE best mouse ever made, especially if u get ure hands on an older 1600dpi version with better feet.

i play css competitively and the entire scene loves the mouse, the older version is like gold dust and nothing compares; and the price is ridiculously low for what u get.

about laser vs optical. laser is ok but hasnt been perfected. it skips a lot of u are a low sensitivity gamer, for high sense u dont notice though. most of the better players play too low a sense to have a laser mouse; so they go optical which has no such problems

Yeah, Logitech mice aren't the best lookers. It is a solid piece of kit though.

The bumps and dents are just cosmetic - the actual shell is perfectly flat.

Laser vs. optical - IMO, just a debate the mouse-makers want people to have. As long as the quoted dpi is 1600+, it's a good mouse and suitable for gaming :)

Check out the Razers as well - I have both a Razer DeathAdder and a Logitech G5. Prefer the G5 but the DeathAdder is still a beast.

Razer mice are better than logitech anyday. Its all preference but my preference is razer. Diamodback is the one in your price range, i personally owned that one and its AMAZING!!!

I'd say MX518 or Deathadder depending on your budget and how you want it to look. I think performance wise the deathadder just pips it, but they're both great mice, you won't be disappointeed with either.

Ive got two Razer mice myself and I think theyre great, so I would recommend one of theirs for under £30 either a diamondback:

or a Salmosa:

Both use the same sensor as the deathadder and that is regarded as an excellent mouse, I have one myself. The Salmosa is quite small but a friend of mine has one and thinks its great.

u say razer mice are better than logitech in the same paragraph as its all preference hehe.

razer are overpriced imo, most people still use and buy 3.0s and mx518s because mice havent been made better since

I was using a G7 but then it died on me. Couldnt decide what i wanted so i took the plunge and got a G9, at first i thought it was going to be waaay to small for me, but got used to it and i will never go back. Love this mouse!

loving my G5 2007 ed.
I think the older logitech mice such as this and the mx series have the best shape of any gaming mouse out there;
whilst all the newest mice by logitech and otherwise seem to resemble random hunks of metal.

Thanks for all the replies and comments on different models. Do these all work ok with vista as i need it to vista compatible?

These mouse threads tend to go the same way, with the 2 main 'contenders', being the MX518 or razer deathadder.

I've got the deathadder, I love using it, best mouse I've had. I can't comment on the logitech, but there are a lot of followers on here.
