Need a new bike...after what happened

Wait..what? You just bought a bike that was the wrong size for you? Why?

It was 4minutes into the auction..and I sometimes impulse buy lol. Paniccc, messaged the guy and he wasn't too angry and cancelled it.

Eitherway, decided I'll go for the https://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-500-se-road-bike-black-id_8306187.html
And buy one of these bad boys..so i dont make the same mistake twice and cry myself to sleep.

The good thing about the Triban is that you can go to your local decathlon and try it out. Even a 57 might be too big for you.
I'm 6ft and most of my bikes are 56cm.

I replied to your other post - get the 520.

Regarding locks...I'd actually personally get the following instead:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/kryptonite-evolution-mini-5-flexframe-u-bracket-lock/
http://www.tredz.co.uk/.M-Part-Allen-Key-Security-Skewers_45216.htm?sku=117180

Just lock the mini-D through your frame and don't worry about cables for your wheels. It's not perfect, but it's pretty secure - more so than a bigger silver secure D lock and a cable for the front wheel.

Thanks man, but i'll stick to the amazon ones, the reviews are 95% positive, and friends recommended. Reply to the other post haha, just wondering what sora and microshift difference actually is..thats worth the £150 more spend

I shall go on Monday.I'll reserve the 520..if its too big, can I change bikes or refund there? local decathlon is 20mins away from me

You can get the same things from Amazon if you like.

I've actually bought both the lock you've linked to and the ones I've linked to before so I've got personal experience. It's not that what you've said you will buy won't work (it will) but it's a lot less hassle to use a mini D and security skewers.

The entire point of using skewers is so that you don't have to carry around an annoying and easily cut cable.

Just cancelled my amazon one..will order your suggestion..too paranoid with cables now tbh..

So, with the skewers, I wont need any cables at all, just skewer them into the wheel, and the frame with the D lock, and bingo?

You've made the right choice :)

Unfortunately no bike security is going to be perfect and it's all a case of balancing hassle for you vs hassle for the thief. A silver secure D lock is a fairly major deterrent and hence insurance companies being happy to cover expensive bikes as long as you can prove you've bought one.

If you lock up in the same place all the time it's possibly still worth getting a gold secure lock and just leaving it there (get security skewers too though). It's not like the gold secure lock is going to get stolen.

Bought both of them, But i wont be locking up in the same place, I mainly cycle everywhere and anywhere just to beat times/distance. Like as a hobby you could say, I enjoy being free on a road, wont be to commute to uni or work though

Yeah. I have the security skewers on both of my wheels (and no quick release on my saddle/seatpost). When I lock my bike up I'll just lock the frame to a secure post/fence/etc. Obviously for the best security you want to lock it so there's a little movement/slack as you can.

In that case this is almost certainly the best choice for you in terms of balancing security vs weight and hassle.

don't buy rubbish chains.

FYP. d-locks aren't exactly unpenetrable.

personally id say if you want to leave your bike unattended for any sort of period, buy a comuter that you aren't that bothered about losing.

bike theves WILL take your bike if they want it. these guys roll around in vans with pretty much everything they need for a drive-by theft.

Nobody is saying that any lock is going to guarantee your bike not being stolen.

I have a reasonable lock and insurance that covers my bike. As I mentioned earlier, it's all a balancing act.
