I have a similar idea to Psymonkee and Townlea.
Although fitted in an alcove of sorts, i have a top and legs from Ikea.
If your not looking to be able to move it about then the way i have it set up would be ideal. Basically i have a batton screwed to the wall at the requred height, the back of the top rests on the batton, the front is supported with two legs, one each side, which are height adjustable to the correct height. The baton makes it very sturdy, but top is not fixed so could be moved if needed. The ikea tops give much more depth than a normal desk which i've found to be a god send, as i have my Canon iP4000 printer with top paper feed out and front tray out sitting behind my laptop which sits on a notepal cooler. Basically 31" (790mm) depth
