Hi,
Sorry to bother you. I used to keep really upto date with PC hardware but I haven't had the need to upgrade for ages so I'm really out of touch.
Basically my PC harddisk is too small.
It is a Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB partitioned as
C: 150GB
D: 350GB
Both partitions are close to filling up so I want to replace it with a bigger drive - 1TB should be ideal (I will use the 500GB as an external eSATA).
My motherboard is only SATA II.
Get 5.9 on the Windows 7 Performance Index
I've considered getting a SDD boot disk, but have decided that I'm happy enough with my PC performance so just want the simplicity of replacing the 500GB with a 1TB.
So a couple of questions
(i) What disk drive would you recommend to give me at least equal performance but in 1TB form.
(ii) What tool would you recommend to move my existing partitions across to the new drive and then extend them.
An alternative approach would be to keep my 500GB in situ and let it become my C: drive and put a new 1TB in the machine and it can become my D: drive.
I'm assuming, that if I do this, I simply need to copy the D: contents across to the new drive, delete the original D: partition and extend the C: partition.
I guess the only thing to consider is how drives have advanced and would a new drive be significantly faster than my Spinpoint F3.
Thanks for the help.
Nigel
