Need a subwoofer ~£500

Which BK sub would you recommend for a room size of roughly 4.5m by 4m?

Also is an antimode worth the £200+ or so it costs it seems a lot of money?

FYI I got a pair of Monitor Audio BX6's plus a centre speaker (3.0) for £220. So with that in mind I'm going for bang for buck rather than the best available. The cheaper the better but I don't mind paying a bit for for a substantial increase in quality.

The XLS400 has MORE than enough omph for that room and would be easier blend in than a mono because it's a closed sub, the anti mode is only required if you are restricted in positions to get an even response. It's something that is get the sub first and then see if you need it.

Now i'm back at an XXLS400 and adding one down the road as I am listening to music more than watching films and the integration aspect appeals.

Bloated bass is BAD for my ears

I was hoping you would say P12-300SB as it's the one most people seem to be raving about and is in between both the above. It got avforums best buy award.

It's too expensive though atm brand new. I'll probably try and pick up either a 300SB or XXLS400 second hand.

When it comes to movies I like a lot of bass. Music I prefer neutral but I tend to use my collection of headphones for that.

The gemini is one of those that I just don't know if it will be enough and then feel like I should have spent more.

I had the Xls400 for a bit before the Gemini and it was great but I would not say it is twice the price of the Gemini great. For me it was too much and I find the Gemini more than enough I do only use it for films. It still makes the doors in my house vibrate like mad when you crank it up.... :-)

If you can get a good price on a second hand XLS400 it would be worth looking into.

Atacama Moseco 7's in dark a nice match.
Very nice quality stands, well packaged, they rang me to confirm delivery- impressed.
System sounding good in music can't wait to actually get a sub though!
May mass-load them at some point if I can be arsed!

Monoliths don't do bloated bass if set up properly. This is even more the case if running an Antimode.

I did consider saving the pennies, buying a mono and an xxls400 and doing a back to back to see what I prefer then stumping up the return postage!

Lowe your setup has the monos front wall by your main speakers. I too would do similar as it looks best there.

My worry is because I would pretty much chuck a mono in one of two positions that I'm not strictly speaking moving it around to find the best room response and may be a bit of a brute force approach by cracking out an anti-mode down the line.

I'm hoping i'll know what sub I'll want when I have the projector setup.

I've got the XLS200, in a room larger than yours. It's more than enough.

It's between the Gemini and the P12-300SB

Good to know. It needs to be downwards firing though I know the wife will poke it in with the hoover otherwise, etc. If it's hidden underneath then less chance. I will probably need to tuck it away in a corner too.

I'm edging towards the P12-300SB and just ordering it brand new unless a second hand one comes up nearby.

My XLS200 is downfiring and hidden under a table. Not that my other half does much hoovering but thats another story!

Look at the SVS subs if you want huge value for money. These are good enough for 50 seat home cinema rooms! I swear to god I can scare the **** out of anyone within 3 blocks with my PB2000 and it's ******* huge. If you think you can live with this much bass do it, there literally is no limit to the volume - you can just turn it up until your buildings walls start to get damaged.
