Need a telephoto

With the current cashback offer you can get one brand new and delivered for £270, only £20 over budget - definitely the way to do IMO.

Hmm, I would suspect that price is an import lens, i cant find an EU seller at much under £450( not including cashback) and as such I think you might find Canon EU less that willing to give you another £70 back.

If you want to take cashback into play, I think there's £40 off the 70-300 IS too.

The sigma lens is great, but the lack of IS means that either you need a good tripod or very good light to shoot from your hands.

I put mine to great use on safari and the results are nothing short of spectacular (to my eyes). For the money it's a cracker.

Nope, UK seller and cashback is claimable. Email in trust if you want more info :)

why do people do this

just poor spelling.

My mahoosive 3 volume webbsters dictionary here has lense and lens both printed.

Some dictionaries leave it out, some accept lense as another spelling of lens. Since nobody holds any kind of ownership of the English language, there can be no decision about whose dictionary is correct.

With this in mind, I think you should both try not to get too annoyed about not being able to understand a word when it isnt spelt the way you like. Most of us can still understand lens when it is spelt in a less traditional manner, hopefully one day you too shall gain this mind-boggling skill.

Until then, life goes on! :)

I wasn't getting annoyed, so apologies if it came across that way.
My spelling is terrible so i can't have a go :p

Well the story goes i needed a lens sharpish yesterday for a shoot on the ski slopes in sheffield. so i had to get something sharpish. The annoying thing is i hardly used it as found a good vantage point that needed a wide angle. :(

I couldnt wait for cash back or looking for a second hand one in countless web pages.

I went with the sigma due to budget restraints. I am actually quite pleased with it. However i will probably replace it within 6 months as i would like IS for low light/ hand held. It will lose some money on it but i will be making some in due course!

If you are on a budget I would suggest the Sigma 70-300 APO, can be had for £109 online.

Under the right conditions it can take great pics, and will allow you to play with taking shots at that length to decide if thats the length you need from a lens.

If it is you can then sell it second-hand for probably the same price you paid and put it towards some savings for a nice expensive L glass lens.

And if not, well you have only spent £109!

Exactly what i am going to do. I have got the Sigma apo and was impressed with fast action while shooting yesterday. going to save up probably for some L glass now. Since i have effectivly 17-300mm with my lenses i have covered most of the bases. There is no point getting any more until i can afford an L lens.
