Need advice on Gaming Rig again :)

OK!!

As a desperate punt I tried rolling back the graphic driver using the last release of 2019 as a start point and it bloody fixed it.. so its seems there is some kind of driver conflict witht heir latest version. ill try installing the new ones just before latest and see which I can use.

I think its a driver issue as I rolled it back and its fixed the graphic issue in windows but now im getting audio issues when in game and not in windows. it either doesn't play unless you change a setting or keeps cutting out for a couple of seconds, seems different depending on the game.

I've been trying to sort this since Friday evening and now I'm done with this ******* card.. i've built loads of PCs and i have never had this much problem setting one up.. I knew I should have stuck with Nvidia who I've always used until this one, so i'm sending this back to OC and getting a 2060 SUPER instead and i bet I don't get 1 issue with it.

It's too big for the damn case and the drivers for it are dog ****. I aint touching AMD cards again after this.

Hi mate,

Well I added the second pcie cable as suggest and no difference.. except I did get a BSOD this time tho. unlikely to do with the pcie cable.

soo im all outta ideas at this stage.. I cant hand this over to my mate tomorrow half arsed so im sending this card back and gonna try again, a smaller card that fits, and a Nvidia chipset that works.

very frustrating but cheers anyways

I've got same problems with my 5700xt aorus card bought it Friday that's going back to ocuk aswell like yourself I've done many a pc and havent had half the problem as this card thinking of getting the sapphire 5700xt nitro instead or a 2070 so if we've both got same problem maybe it's gigabyte cards maybe a faulty batch

its crazy how bad it is.. i spent HOURS trying to solve one issue only for another to appear!! waste of time, waste of a weekend, thing isnt even mine. And I dont even think its just a hardware issue i think its software too, their drivers are years behind Nivdia's.

I can't waste any more time on it, OCUK can take it back, im done.

I know the feeling I felt like chucking it through the window lol it really wound me up trying different things even did a fresh install with just bare minimum on no av software down loaded just cause 3 simple enough game to play for a card of this calibre and it crashed the pc with in 2 mins of playing put the 270x back in and i didnt even change the drivers when i put that back in and thats been fine touch wood will not buy a gigabyte card again thats for sure I'm taking mine back to ocuk tomorrow

Thing is in my rig I have the Nvidia Aorus Xtreme 2080ti which I have had since end of 2018 and its been fine, though it did need thermal paste re-applied last year by Gigabyte lol.

I too installed just a few games to test and each one had issues playing.. How can i hand this to my work colleague tomorrow who has bought this for their young teenage son as a present.. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night handing that over to them to deal with.. they trusted me with their large amount of money so i will follow through.

But the most annoying thing is its about to be Sunday evening and I haven't done anything but try and fix this bloody lol, its that missing time that ****** me off the most.

I wish you the best of luck mate, hope it works out for you :)

Cheers mate i feel your frustration still thinking if i should go nvidia as like you say i built my son same spec as mine but with a 2070 in and it went as smooth as silk like plug and play but I'd read the amd driver thread and took it they had sorted it out I reckon it's the actual card I read somewhere that someone had lowered the clocks on their 5700xt aorus card to stop it happening to them but i cant be bothered doing that as thats not the spec i brought so its going back tomorrow morning what card you looking at getting

So for the budget for the same card it will have to be an Nvidia 2060 Super so one of those, there are a few on offer at the moment which are roughly same price so hopefully arrange a simple exchange. If I could be guaranteed that getting another 5700 XT would not have the same issues as this one I would get another but I can't go through this again and as I'm leaning more on a driver issue then a hardware one its too big of a risk. which is a shame really as performance wise the 5700 XT seems to have a little more grunt for the same price.

performance wise is the 2070 non-super better than a 2060 Super?

edit: ahh also that msi card comes in at over 30cm long so is longer than the 5700XT so wouldn't fit unfortunately

Hi mate,

Thank you for the info,

Yes the Gigabyte 2070 Windforce was the one I was looking at.. I don't have a problem with gigabyte myself as I already use an Nvidia base 2080ti Aorus card and its fine.. my problem is with AMD based cards in general at the moment :)

I think the 2070 is the answer. I tried to push my colleague to go 2070 Super but the price jumps too much for them unfortunately :)

Cheers mate.

A quick update, I reinstalled the card this evening when i got home from work and just updated everything I can, motherboard bios, system drivers, windows updates etc and it seems I have resolved the sound issue now. BUT when I update the gfx software to latest version I still get all the graphic issues and flashing screens again so I have to roll back to fix it. Technically then if I use last driver all seems to be well but I don't like that graphic issue.

I've taken a quick video just so you guys can see what i'm talking about:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70P2HpBI8kQ

I've made contact with OCUK but nothing arranged yet.. I am tempted to try another 5700 XT, do you guys think this is a hardware or software issue, would getting another 5700 XT resolve this or should i stick with gut feelings and get a RTX 2070 instead?

So I installed msi's Update Live 6 software for the mobo and it stated on there there was an update for the HD Audio driver so I install that and i'm sure that is what fixed the sound issue I was having. Yes, rolling back to the previous version of the gfx driver before this one removes all those issues you see in that video.

It plays games fine with this driver or the previous driver, the only issue with the game I had was the sound but that's now fixed as far as I can see.

I can roll it back for my mate at work but if this is a driver issue how do I know this will get resolved and not stuck on this driver version? I'm conscious of the 14 day return window if I do need to return this product because as said I'm building this for someone who is not computer savvy and I don't want to stitch them up with a dodgy card that's all.

OK I emailed OCUK with an update and link to my video and Ill see what they think.

If its worth rolling back the driver and using with an older version for now until hopefully a fix comes out then I guess that's fine. I think when I get home from work tonight ill roll the driver back, final test play a couple more games and hopefully we are good to go.

tbh I like the card as when it works it's great and don't really want to return it.

Cheer mate for all your help with this :)

right, rolled back the driver again this evening which resolved the graphic issue in windows BUT sound issue came straight back.

So, contacted OCUK who have provided RMA and the card is being shipped back to them tomorrow for full refund and ill be getting that Gigabyte RTX 2070 (non-super) Windforce X2 instead which we all know is going to work straight out of the box.

Unless AMD do some serious investment into the driver division I will not be buying or recommending their products again.

I got burnt, lesson learned.

Cheers.

Just through the HDMi which surely means that its controlled by the audio driver within the graphic driver? I hope its not a mobo issue otherwise that going back too lol. We will see when the new card arrives I guess.

No worries regarding the recommendation, you weren't to know I was going to have these issues.. you were only trying to help. The Ryzen 5 3600 seems to be pretty good don't have a problem with that :) Who ever heads their CPU department need to go have a word with their graphic card department :))

They won't issue refund until they have the card back which is understandable so im going to have to lay down the extra money to buy the 2070 tomorrow otherwise this build is just going to drag on and its already destroying my enjoyment of PC building.

Anyway, ill let you know how the new card goes.

Cheers for your help mate, I do appreciate it.

So just a quick update on this, the RTX 2070 arrived today, fitted, and worked perfectly straight outta the box. latest driver installed, have sound, no graphic issue in windows, games ran as expected.

My advice, stay clear of the 5700 XT until AMD sort their drivers out.
