OK, so I bought a gaming PC from OCUK very recently, put it together and now I'm trying to play my favourite game, Call of Duty 4. I've been an avid COD4 multiplayer on PS3 since it's day of release, but I decided to take a crack at the PC version because I wanted to migrate to a better system (PS3 to PC).

My problem is:I'm running an ASUS ATI Radeon HD 4890 @950MHz and my max fps is about 160. Is that right? I expected it to be about 200+ with that GPU. Anyway, not my main concern.

Main concern: My ping is super high, like 150. Now i payed extra money for a decent PCI Wireless Network card, a Belkin one to be exact at 300mb/s (something like that), and I was expecting a ping of about 50. Am I just aiming too high?

I only ask because my friend has a worse GPU and Network Adapter than me, and is getting FPS of 200+ and ping of <50. Surely I am missing something. Finally, whenever I play a multiplayer game, 100% of the time I eventually get kicked by Punkbuster? Why? Please help, I love the game and only really bought a PC to game. If it doesn't work it will all be a huge waste of money. Help me out.

I'm running at 1680X1050 with everything maxed. Oh well, I'll get over that, but my ping is really annoying me. How do I know if i've set it up badly? There are other people using the internet in my house, but only for minor things like goole and what not, I can't see that effecting my ping that much. So I presume it is badly set up. I mean, my connection strength is 'excellent' according to windows, I just can't see what the problem is.

I'm assuming that if I don't know if I'm running X-fire or not I'm probably not. I mean, I haven't installed it. Just a bog-standard PC, Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, and COD4, almost nothing else, and nothing else is running while I play.

I'm using a standard router, the one that my ISP gave me =S Is that bad. It's a Netgear router, and I've got Sky Broadband if that makes any difference.

OK, I've typed that tarcert thing in, what should I paste here? And how do I paste, it wont let me copy? (Wow I'm stupid =S)

I always sort the servers by lowest ping, and then select the lowest, but that always seems to be 90+, which I didn't understand. Would that make much of a difference?

OK, so my ping dropped to an incredible 111. Better, but still not good enough for my liking. Any more suggestions?

I definately can't get a wire. The router is miles away, and I've spent enough. I really don't know what the problem is. Please keep thinking about how I could improve it. Nobody else is using it right now and ping still never <100.

I did that speedtest and it says my ping is 151? I presume that means it's definately my internet service provider?

Hmmmm, nobody in my house does anything more complciated than search google, possibly the odd upload of a pciture, but that's like once a millenia. Literally, it definately isn't traffic from my house, I'm 100% the only one doing anything that would do anything noticeable to my bandwidth. I've contacted my ISP via e-mail as the help number didn't work. Just waiting for them to get back to me. Tell me if you guys come up with anything else. I got it down to 100ish by uploading the 1.7patch (I got better servers), but still, my ping is shocking.

Errrr, this is starting to get frustrating. They said they upped my speed onto their fastest, and their call service doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm going to try again lol
