Need COD4 Help Please

Hmmmm, nobody in my house does anything more complciated than search google, possibly the odd upload of a pciture, but that's like once a millenia. Literally, it definately isn't traffic from my house, I'm 100% the only one doing anything that would do anything noticeable to my bandwidth. I've contacted my ISP via e-mail as the help number didn't work. Just waiting for them to get back to me. Tell me if you guys come up with anything else. I got it down to 100ish by uploading the 1.7patch (I got better servers), but still, my ping is shocking.

Looks like it depends if your on easynet LLU or the ipstream service - the LLU apparently "there is no known congestion" - but the ipstream service they are NOT upgrading the network once it becomes congested due to impending upgrade to BT's 21CN network...

So basically if your on ipstream rather than LLU and hitting congestion (which is what it looks like to me if your certain no one at home is using the internet heavily) - your screwed until they move you to a WBC connect at some indeffinate time in teh future.

Why? Is Sky bad?

I just know quite a few people around my area at least who get absilmal pings from sky.

Im guesing you are on sky then/ And its not a problem at your end so it would just comfirm my views at least that sky are just rubbish really. Tis what you get when you go cheap really.

Look to get virgin media or BE etc. Im on virgin media and can oftern get pings of sub 20. speedtest.net oftern gives me between 9-18 as well. Though i just did it and got 30 :O

I think hes on UK Online.

Would be a good idea to get confirmation on that tho - if he can tell us if its on LLU or ipstream even better.

the problem is youre i.s.p has interleaved turned on, tell the you want it turned on to fast path, then youre ping will be about hals what it is atm, thats a problem i had ;}

Interleaving won't normally give you a 100+ms ping with lots of fluctuation. Generally it will result in a rise from 30ms to 65-70ms ingame - not 150 odd. Its possible tho that the line has interleaving on as well making the situation even worse.

Errrr, this is starting to get frustrating. They said they upped my speed onto their fastest, and their call service doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm going to try again lol

My exchange is:

Name: South Harrow | OLO: LWSHAR | County & Region : London

Still can't get in touch with Sky by phone, and they have stopped replying to my e-mails. It's all getting rather frustrating as I really though I was getting somwhere with them. I just reasearched into upgrading to Virgin Media Broadband, but my family can't afford it (neither can I), so I have to stay with Sky.

I've done absolutely nothing except complain to Sky via e-mail, and my ping has suddenly reduced to 60-65. Is this more normal, most of my friends are reporting much lowers scores?

60-65 is about as good as it will get if you have interleaving on. But thats more normal. Anything under 70ms is pretty playable, tho obviously lower is better. On your router status page somewhere it should list either interleave or fast or fastpath mode near where it lists the sync speeds - if its on interleave its worth asking the ISP to enable fastpath.

Thank you very much, I am extremely thankful for all of your help. I'll ask my ISP to enable fastpath, but there has been a VERY noticeable increase in performance, so I am extatic. Many thanks to everyone who replied in this thread!
