So I am putting together a presentation for something I have to do at work. The topic of the presentation is “User Experience and Interaction” and is to be based on one of our company websites. One of my opening slides has some bullet points describing what is seen to be examples of good user experience, I have the following:

- The less choices you present to the user, the better. Users get confused rather quickly.
- User Interface should remain consistent from screen to screen.
- Keep the “Noise” to a minimum. People don’t need to know about the business as usual messages. Don’t annoy your user.
- Avoid acronyms if at all possible. If you must use them, supply a descriptive message right beside it.
- Your application must run lean and mean. As pretty as your interface might be, if the software seems slow, no sale.
- Let users explore the application, without fear they will cause a disaster. Undo, Redo, and History features might be a good idea.

I have been hunting around on the web for a list of bad examples but I am struggling. Was wondering if any of the designers in here would be able to help me come up with a list?

Cheers

Thats the first site i thought of too :)

She spends all day looking at the referrers to her site and is a member here so she'll probably be along soon telling us all how awesome the site is.

Can I make a suggestion on your presentation by the way. Powerpoint slides are supposed to be bullet points, not lengthy items of text. With what you have here, there is no point in you presenting, as there is little to add in commentary. If it was me doing it, I would say the following

- Restrict Choices
- Consistent User Interface
- Minimise Noise
- Avoid acronyms.
- Lean and Mean.
- User Comfort

You can then add detail to these in your commentary. As it stands your audience would ignore you as they would reading the slides.

There's other more technical ones to include as well - for instance the Indipendent Schools Inspectorate (http://www.isi.net/) at first glance seems to be a nice clean site, however, the links to the alphabetical listings are javascript and hence when you get the page up it cannot be bookmarked.

Just search for Villa rental companies in Florida. We recently redesigned a rental company's website, and I must say, their competition on the web is absolutely appalling; really, really bad sites.

What's her user name?

to the OP, can I request a copy of your presentation? You can of course say no, (I would) but on the off chance you don't mind me looking through, currently looking into this myself. I'd offer to share information but I've pretty much got your initial bullet points anyway
