Need expert advice on building a rig better than the Alienware area 51 threadripper edition.

Do you think itll be worth
Just wait for Z390 boards as there should be an 8 core i7. Also new gpu's are due this year as well.
You think its worth waiting 3 years to build my rig at this point? I really want to be able to play my games 4k60/144Hz60fps without my rig turning into a jacket potato like ive said before. Really want something better than 1080TI soon

There is always something new on the horizon even if you buy the latest parts today. I wouldn't worry too much about the future. As long as you get a solid cpu such as the 8700K (Or wait for Z390) and a high end gpu (1080 ti or wait for new cards) then that is all you can do. In the future when it starts to struggle then you upgrade the cpu and/or gpu etc.

The next gpu's from Nvidia should hopefully launch Mid 2018, and Z390 is hopefully here Q3/Q4 2018 so no need to wait 3 years. Also AMD has the newer Ryzen cpu's as well if you want to go for an AMD cpu.

If you are planning on gaming at 4K then the cpu is less important anyway. You are more gpu bound at that resolution. If you are itching to buy now then I would go 8700K and a 1080 ti. You can always sell the 1080 ti gpu and buy the 2080 ti or whatever they launch this year. The 8700K will last a good few years before that needs changing.

Thanks, is the Z390 a type of x399 board or something?

Z390 is full coffeelake chipset , much like leaked H370 .. take a look at Gigabyte H370 thread on mobo section as as well as ASRock leaks and you'll see they have same VRM count as Flagship models and a few extras they don't .
8 core will be out next year, not noted on roadmaps but Intel could feel threatened enough with Ryzen+... They'll try and Dona coffeelake 2 and mash 2 extra cores on current node other 7nm isn't ready.. god knows how hot that will be !!!! Gigabyte will have to dust of their SoC lineup with 22 phase count haha .
Think z390 should be at computex

lol. this circlejerk thread has been going on for a month and still ends up with OP not buying anything...
not buying anything yet. Like I say, just gathering intel, waiting for new stuff to come out. But don't worry, I can assure you, I will be updating my rig. Don't know why you think its a circlejerk thread and me not buying anything bothers you so much though...

I'll be back when them new GPUs are out.

Wallet should have plenty of time to save up for mid Q3 .
Advice, if you see pre order or straight into stock, don't hold off and buy, like every gen price will inflated with demand, specially now Ray Tracing for Nvidia is hardware bound

If it helps, thread ripper refresh is Q4 , don't think they are in any rush

To be fair, I contributed to this thread a while ago and saw it pop up again in "New Posts" and immediately wondered if OP had bought anything yet. It came as no surprise that he hadn't.
whats with everyones facination with someone buying stuff on this site?! Am I missing something here?

All nerds, nice to see new kit .
On some cases , having to dig deep and do a lot of research to a specific bound use or software , to never know if OP did get it or not etc etc , nothing worse then if you help someone in life and that take/get your advice and don't say thanks back ( which on here is a pic or boosting how awesome it is leaving member who quotes it wishing they could upgrade ) . There's a dark grin upon ones face when you can convert a console warrior to PC master race

Just to reiterate, Im here for research on parts for my rig. Not for ya'll satisfaction on whether the information on the part you suggested was bought! So lay off the "did he buy it? ah, nah he didnt..." "Did he get anything we told him about?...Nope, Im not surprised."

It's just nice to see that the sum of our efforts have led to a purchase and a happy new PC owner.

This thread is really long for a thread that did not end with a PC build. If you do go ahead and make a purchase then how about putting up a build log as some of us are interested that's all.

No pressure :D

Be humble my friend. No console warriors here.

Ill be sure to post the end rig build once i make it. Just waiting for them danm new GPUs to drop. Its pratically one of the only parts stoping me from buying all parts and the longer I wait the better, I.E prices go down, my dosh goes up, better parts come out, you see where Im going with this? Don't get me wrong, course I appriciate the info Im getting but allow fishing for credit, credit comes where credit is due. Now if youre looking up at the sky, whistling with your hands sticking out in front, perhaps I can hand out some reps.
