The Electric Playground learned that Electronic Arts has cancelled development of future projects in the Need for Speed series due to declining sales and declining critical reception for the street racing series. They offer no hints about the source of this news and admit they've received no official confirmation of this from EA. Electronic Arts' latest version of their long running Need For Speed racing series, Need For Speed Undercover, has gotten poor reviews and also apparently not been selling nearly as well as previous titles in the franchise.

So its not a shock to hear rumors that financially troubled EA may be retiring the Need For Speed series. EA director of communications Colin Macrae provided Electric Playground with the following comment: "We're working through a process on people, products, and facilities at EA and don't have any announcements today."

Its a shame since i enjoyed the likes of underground carbon and most wanted, but they was all basicly the same game with a differant twist and they never built on them.

Then they seemed to go backwards with pro street and undercover. Maybe gamers are becoming wise to EA and not buying all there repackaged games like they used to. Maybe ea will realise they cant keep milking the same cash cow games and expect people to buy them.

Or is that in a perfect world?

No, blaming it on poor games after Most Wanted. Carbon was OK, rest were just crap. Most wanted was the best and still is the best in the series.

I don't understand how they could get is so right with Most Wanted, but so wrong with all of the others. :(

It took a nosedive after most wanted imo. How they consistantly cocked it up 3 times in a row i dont know.

GOOD

Can't understand why people buy these games when they obviously sooooo bad, if you have a limited development cycle and keep cranking these games out they are always going to be cack. Vise à vie declining sales.

Not surprised, the last NFS I clicked with was number 3 on the Playstation.

And even then imo they never bettered the original 3DO version. Hero Biscuit?

EDIT - left an important word out doh!

re

the problem with need for speed is you just bang off all the walls if your a rubbish driver and you can still actually win the race, the 3dO version was best way back in 1994/5 for its unique crashes and camera angles at the time.....burnout is so much better, harder, more fun:)

thank god at last they even cant make decent racing game hopefully in years to come someone will buy the nfs series title and make proper nfs

Yes! Finally! The NFS name deserves to be left alone and not put on wave after wave of sub-par gaming experience.

You know they'll release the same poor games though, just without the NFS name.
Hopefully we'll all forget the recent attrocities that have been released and remember the good things about Need for Speed.
R.I.P :D
