Need For Speed series come to an end?

I'm also glad to hear this in ways. I'd rather see someone else take over the NFS name and make some good games again, but I'll settle for EA not releasing more complete letdowns.

The 3DO, ah that brings back memories, NFS on it was absolutely ace, its was the most advance game I'd ever seen at the time. Shame it was the only good game the 3DO ever got.

I'm sad to see it come to an end as I enjoyed NfS Underground -> Most Wanted. However, after MW the games have been of poor quality franchise releases for the Christmas market and they've suffered for it.

^ Bit harsh? - the 3DO comment, 2 above

Apologies off-topic - but Road Rash was a corker too; an exclusive until the other 32 bit version hit. 3DO Madden and Return Fire was superb titles.

It also got Space Hulk first, a very good conversion of Super Street Fighter X/Turbo, A good conversion of Wing Commander 3 (alright it was a bit pants) and Starblade from Namco first.

It was never in the same league as the PS or Saturn, but had some good games. Certainly more than the Jaguar ;-p

I'm sort of happy and sad if this is true. I loved the NFS series and was always hoping for a decent one after Most Wanted - now that will never happen. BUT I'm glad EA will stop ripping people off for below par NFS games :D.

Underground 1/2 and Most Wanted were brilliant games for their intended purpose, the rest were just plain crap.

They should have ended this series of games wih Most Wanted and done a remake of Porsche Unleashed (or something along those lines).

Road Rash was rather good also :)

Wouldn't mind trying to get hold of a 3DO in the new year.

we have codemasters who can do a good job on racing games im sure one day they will release something similiar to nfs with tuning elemets...

I still have NFS2: SE and NFS3 for PC :)

Edit: Funny how games in the mid 90s all had live-action cutscenes and virtually none have them now..

Not sure what to think about this.

Admittedly EA have really started to release total and utter tat from the NFS series, but as shown with UG and UG2, they know how to release gems. I also think Carbon would have been better if it hadn't have been so short. What there was was actually pretty damn good.

MW was a good game ruined by stupid poorly designed achievements, and rubber-band catch up logic - it quite frankly made playing the game a complete and utter waste of time. ProStreet didn't deserve to wear the NFS badge, I generally just forget it's existence.

I think Undercover wasn't as bad as some make out either, it just suffered from poor physics and storyline.

OTT reaction by EA but not unexpected.

Most Wanted sold over 7 million copies so made them a lot of money. Since then they have not produced a NFS game with similar quality so its gone downhill rapidly. Carbon & Pro-Street were really bad.

EA should have spent 2 years making a proper sequel to Most Wanted instead of milking it to death with a 1 year development cycle which starts as soon as the latest game is released.

Exactly. This, if true, is a crying shame. NFS used to be fantastic. All they needed to do was make the latest version not crap :(

Out of interest, what didn't you like about it Fox?

The terrible framerate issues, poor car handling and the fact that using a 360 controller for Windows means you must make constant steering adjustments to go in a straight line.

Ah fair enough, pretty much what I hated about it then.

And the pad thing has been around for quite a few NFS games now, IIRC the last one I bought on the PC (Carbon) wouldn't work properly unless I calibrated the pad every time I ran the damn game.
