^ Need for Speed Shift ^

Visually it looks absolutely gorgeous, but I wish they'd stop calling it a simulator when it clearly isn't.

EA Markeing = It simulates speed and the effects of the driver...

ugh.

The car is twitchy, floaty and overeats to the players inputs. I mean, how many cars skit around like that? I don't like it, and the fact that the racing line is on shows that the aids are turned on. IF its sliding all over the place with them on, its gonna be infuriating with them off.

How do you know the racing line can't be turned on and off independently of other driver aids? :)

I agree that the handling looks overly sensitive from the video, it doesn't look like driving would be an enjoyable experience; if real cars were that difficult to drive people would be crashing regularly.

The lights at the bottom right of the screen show the aids and they all light up ;)

EDIT: I noticed this after I posted but I was right anyway :)

Fair enough :p (I wasn't necessarily saying you were wrong, but I just wondered if you knew or were assuming :))

Well, these journo demos are usually limited to all aids on to make the games look better (as journos are inherently bad at racing games from what I have seen!). That's my main assumption, esp when I saw the racing line.

I'm hoping the reason the handling looks off is that the driver is crap. I'm still going to reserve judgement until I play it, but I'm not going to hold out hopes for it being fantastic.

Still looking forward to it though

yes does look nice.

mind if i ask a question, why do you and many others(not specifically here) keep forgetting about pro mode??

not digging at you but your simulator comment would only hold water if that vid was the only physics mode in the game

i think he was using a pad because the clicks sounding like pad triggers being pressed and the way the wheel turned made it look like he was using a stick not a wheel but i could be wrong

Oh that's definitely pad use, but not everyone has a wheel including myself. In fact, out of the targer audience I bet only 20% have/use a wheel with this game.

I know, I'm a racing game lover but I have no space to accomodate a wheel in a comfortable position in my terraced shed but get along fine with my 360 pad. I'd expect some kind of progression with a pad as opposed to what looks like an on/off switch.

You can have as many pro modes and lack of aids as you want but if the car isn't on rails with them on then there's not much hope of keeping it on the black stuff without!

I imagine people who have a wheel are in a handful of percent in fact, nowhere near 20%. So the game should be made with pad users firmly in mind.

yes dup but cars dont handle like they are on rails with aids on. if you go fast enough and turn hard enough you are going to understeer no matter what aids you have on. like at 52 secs on the first vid he understeers at 130kmh was slightly downhill too. i think that seemed ok.

just name a part in the vid you think is totally wrong so i can have a look myself

whats interesting is although its in time attack mode, if you watch the top of the screen the player is being rewarded points for 'Racing Line' and 'Mastering Corners' with a multiplier effect ...

the person driving was obviously new to the game and drove pretty poorly, but from the footage it defo looks like they have got the weight and handling right.

@ Guest2 : i think the release date is sept 19th (ish)

No it doesn't. It looks nowhere near realistic as far as handling and weight goes.

The 'he was driving crap and using a pad' argument does not wash, console 'sims' manage a fairly close approximation of a sim even when using a pad, you don't see the cars twitching and jumping all over the place like that in the Forza or GT series, even when you are driving like a 'tard.

I'll reserve final judgement untill release, but as of now I have abandoned any hope that is is going to be anything other than a pure arcade racer. That's not necceserilly a bad thing, but it's not what the game was/is being pitched as by EA.

Having said that, I'm still looking forward to it, there's nowt wrong with a decent arcadey racer ala GRID.

The player is constantly correcting their steering like a rally river, not a circuit driver. I agree they will evetually understter etc, but getting the back end out and slipping all over the place isn't quite the same.

I agree the players input isn't the best but there should be some balance there.
