Need FPS tips!

You need to see what works best for you. Keep playing it, then play some more than play even more. It is the only way. Advice on tactics etc is all very well, you need to learn the maps and put the hours in. As that does help, no point in rushing out into bottle necks on maps or killing zones. Time my friend. You mentioned red orchestra. I have heard this is a more strategic approach to FPS. Most of the other games you mention are extremely fast paced games. Your reaction times are essential. If you are used to slower paced games you will find itt tough. Again keep plugging away mate you will get used to it.

yeh but on the other side of the scale i can't stand people who reload after shooting 2 bullets! i think that is more "noob" :P

On COD 4 and other games, the amount of noise you make can = life or death. If they are in the room next door they can hear you coming. Walking or crouching can help reduce the noise you make and also inscrease shot accuracy too.

Another tip is to work with team mates. Cover behind them if necessary and using the nades in the right place can give you the advantage.

Most games have online map guides with where to chuck grenades and where to expect campers etc.

Those two bullets could be the killing shots for the next battle - I'd hate to have to reload while the other guy's on like 10hp. This has happened to me lots and lots, so I reload whenever I'm out of combat now, even if it's just 1 bullet or 10 bullets.

For a new player coming into an online FPS where a lot of them are veterans lol... gl.

aim for head yeah but my advice:

aim for back of head.

To win at fps (cleanly - cant do much about hackers) isnt about shooting to head fastest or having the fastest reflexes. Its about space. Space in movement and space in shooting (ie there is a kill window where you need to kill everyone around before they react or can kill you)

Bit like football...you know those players who seem to always be in the right place at the right time. (managing to lose their markers at the same time)

To do it perfectly all of your kills would be where the enemy is entirely unaware of your presence and so cant defend against you. Even when in the midst of the enemy you accomplish this. e.g. chokepoint then go around them and go back and rape em all because they are all facing away from you.

That is what you need to learn.

You learn that by playing the game, learning maps, how to use weapons effectively and learning from how you die. Sometimes when facing an enemy i will let myself die just so i can observe how someone plays, how fast they are or observing enemy position.

Often if you get killed from a certain position the enemy will stay there so its really easy to take them out afterwards.
Keep moving ALL THE TIME (even when standing still do not stand still!) and no sniper will take you down.

My policy is to use/have two main weapons that you are decent with so you can switch between them quickly (ie a medium/long range weapon and short range killing weapon)

If you have to fight through multiple enemies ahead of you. Move fast. Use covering fire/distractions/smoke/nades to help you.
In every game you will find someone better than you at either: aiming/moving or intelligence.
What you have to do is maximize your strengths whilst minimizing the enemies "killing window"

If someone is obviously a better long distance shot than you. Doesnt mean he is a better player - YOU JUST have to kill him differently -

Remember that ST:NG episode where Data has to play a strategic sorta multi-layered chess game against an alien grandmaster?

Data lost the first game because he tried to win.

He won the rematch because all he did there was to try to prevent his opponent from winning.

THAT is what you should do in FPS. STAY ALIVE. So if someone is aiming better and killing you. Retreat and use other weapons to take him out. Ive done it many many times.

Its about balancing the environment and conditions in your favour at all times.

So your most deadliest weapon is your battle field intelligence.

i no idea but lately fps games got boring. and all there is less more interesting games no good gameplays at all.

sits and ways for l4d and cod5

Try not to get frustrated. It takes time. Everybody has their strengths and weaknesses in fps games - try and learn what yours are and play accordingly. Also, try and find a server you really like and stick to that one for a while - one with a good ping and people you enjoy playing with/against.

Stop trying to shoot them, and shoot them. You think that's air you're breathing?

Methamphetamine, its like 20mb dsl for your brain

Awesome tips guys, keep em coming! I've been playing some Crysis Wars and not coming last every game which is a pleasant start! Does anybody else play it by the way? Would be nice to get a little OCUK game going! My s/n is manic111...

Thats why in most shooter you have a side arm, learn to use it. :p

Play the single player level "All Ghillied Up" on veteran level many many times :D

Be aware of your surroundings and listen for enemy footsteps, you can usually tell where people are from that.

EDIT.

Sorry i dont know why i assumed that you would be playing Call of Duty 4...

1)Learn maps
2)Dont rush around like a headless chicken
3)Think about every movement and possible ambush points to avoid if at all possible
4)Dont shoot unless you have a clear shot at someone otherwise you will let them know where you are as they may not have seen you.

oh and practice a lot :)
