need heelp please

I dont think buying a new mother board at £40, plus DDR3 4GB ram at £35 is as cheap as just buying the DDR2 4GB kit at £60.

The motherboard you looked at only has two ram slots for each type of memory type too.

A possibility. 4GB DDR3 12800 would be cheaper, and the motherboards isn;t that expensive, and should overclock well. Then you can re-use DDR3 on a later build (hopefully). Corsair XMS3 4GB, 1-4V -> 1.65V, that should work.

True, dunno how his current mobo fares in the overclocking potential (BIOS particularly, since it's OEM mobo?).

lets say i can up my budget would it be a better idea?

i wont have this kind of money for a while so looking what may be best in the long term and also taking into consideration that my board has been used for a good 3 years solid?

ok right i pushed my budget to £500 no more (wife will kill me) ive done a few changes and came up with this lot if anybody has the time and the patience(hahaha) have a look for me and see what you think please.

I would do it. It's a £15 upcharge, and imo worth it. On another hand, you may as well just get yourself a complete new kit (mob + CPU + RAM), sell your Q6600 which ain't a bad chip, something like a 2500K + P67 setup. Depends when you are doing the actual upgrade and what your final budget will be.

Given that you already have a PSU and maybe a couple of bits and bobs, we could come up with fresh new budget gaming rig for the same money. There are a couple of expensive components in there that can be specced down.

EDIT : forget it. tried and failed :/ Win 7 is getting a big chunk out of the budget for a 2500K.

two dvd drives? just use the burner.

the ram is too expensive - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-203-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

whats the 2TB hdd for? just storage? as its slow for a boot drive to run the pc from.

A win7 bundle will do - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SW-000-OP

got rid of the rom, added the win7 bundle and changed the memory and totally price comes to £492 and with still keeping the 2TB harddrive :)

yeah cheers for that,i did try but as you say with me wanting to upgrad to win7 trying to do a custom rig was impossible with the budget

Good stuff, so run Win7 and programs on the 500GB drive, and use the 2TB drive for all the mp3s, photos etc
